Over the last two weeks, so many people have been coming inside the shop and talking about how heavy the energy feels, how confused and even angry they are right now. I have been feeling it too, and while we can't control external issues like the price of gas, food, and all of the other things that have us feeling so anxious, what we can do is take moments of mindful practices that keep us grounded and appreciative for the blessings we do have in our lives.
This also got me thinking about how holiday season is right around the corner and for people in all capacities and industries, it's also a time to protect ourselves from negative people, influences, and even our own personal thoughts. In recognition of this need, I decided to make some Florida water on the last full moon.
To learn about the history of Florida water and how to make it yourself, I highly recommend reading lucretia 's book, African American Herbalism. She is a North Carolina native who luckily lives in New Orleans right now and is a wealth of knowledge in southern herbalism and body care practices. I just re-ordered her book to sell in the shop so we should have it in about two weeks, but you can find her inside most book shops and from her website.
The one thing I took from her book was that when making Florida water, you should use things that you have easy access to, are indigenous to your area, or that you grow yourself. This should be a very intuitive practice of what feels right to you. What felt right to me was to use the plants that I grow in my yard plus some things I had on hand that are traditionally used for protection and abundance.
Check the comments for what I included in my Florida water. I placed my jar in a room where I can touch and speak to it every day. I also added some crystals to the top of the jar for added protection, self love, and discernment. I will decant this during the next full moon and will be giving it out as a gift with purchase very soon.
