This November, , it's important to understand the facts about Pet Cancer and Canine Cancer. Pet dogs in particular are considered a "sentinel" species as they truly live our lives, breathe our air, eat our food, drink our water, etc. As a result, our four legged best friends develop many similar cancers to those in humans, as well as a few others. Scientists believe these are likely tripped by many of the same factors that contribute to cancer in people. It will take us all working together to find more effective treatments and to put an end to canine and pet cancer! Learn more at https://bit.ly/3bITEAh

We're learning more each day that, as in people, pet cancer is influenced by multiple factors - lifestyle, environmental exposures, nutrition, age, genetic predisposition or sometimes, unfortunate genetic luck. is a good time to reflect on what we can do for our pets to live healthier lifestyles, be aware of predispositions, ensure we have regular exams and screenings (early detection) and more. At CnK, we're working to advance comparative oncology and translational research - involving academia, industry and other cancer organizations- to help solve the puzzle of cancer in our pets (canines) and the people who love them. We work tirelessly every day with one urgent goal in mind: to accelerate breakthrough treatments for canine cancer patients that are humane, provide or improve quality of life, and ultimately benefit them in their battle against cancer. At the same time, we want to maximize the translational value of our work in canines for the benefit of pediatric cancer patients - to speed the onset of clinical trials that will ultimately help kids beat their cancer too.

Kids and canines are connected by a harsh reality...few medicines for their cancers exist and virtually no investment is being made in a cure for their cancers.
* 1 in 5 children will die from cancer
* Merely 4% of NIH budget, and near 0 pharma money goes into new cancer drugs for kids.
* Limited treatment options for canines with cancer.
* 50% of all dogs over 10 will die from cancer.

Canines-N-Kids exists to change this reality. To raise awareness, raise funds, and put an end to cancer.

03/26/2021

Dogs have a higher incidence of cancer than humans/kids overall. Some pediatric cancers are rare and therefore difficult to study, but are much more common in canines. For example, osteosarcoma strikes about 25,000 dogs in the US a year, but is an orphan disease in kids (about 800 cases/year). Treating and studying canine patients with this disease will help bring new, humane treatments to them, while also helping doctors learn more about this devastating cancer for the benefit of kids with osteosarcoma.
These two incredible and precious patient populations may be best suited to help one another to find a better bath forward, and one day put an end to cancer!

We fund maximum impact research and clinical trials in comparative oncology and translational pediatric cancer research. We seek to bring canine cancer patients new, humane treatments for their cancers, while answering key questions for kids with cancer, including the fundamental biology of cancer development, metastasis, and recurrence; tumor genetics; genomics; molecular targets and signaling pathways; therapeutic responses and toxicities.

The Canines-N-Kids Foundation is about raising awareness of the cancers kids and our beloved canines share in common, and closing the funding gap that has stood in the way of making meaningful progress. We are about collaboration and breaking down barriers that stand in the way of a breakthrough in canine and pediatric cancer. Our goal is to bring together the best and brightest in pediatric and veterinary oncology, and to work creatively and constructively with others who share in our mission to help canines and kids with cancer to beat their disease.
