While building a new habits takes over 31 days, fall is the perfect time to get the jump-start you need.

Take a bit of time each day to learn more about the various aspects of wellness to help you work toward building new habits. Give yourself permission to focus on your well-being, identify things in your health journey that you are doing well and look for opportunities to improve.

Prepare your health for autumn by focusing on seasonal illness prevention, nutrient-rich eating, and physical safety.

1. Protect Against Seasonal Illnesses

• Consider getting vaccinated: Annual flu shots can be scheduled between September and October before cases spikes. Also, ask your doctor about updated COVID-19 or RSV immunizations.

• Remember simple hygiene precautions: Don’t forget to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and cover your coughs or sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.

• Improve indoor air: Open windows occasionally for ventilation or use air filtration as you spend more time indoors.

2. Eat Seasonal, Nutrient-Dense Foods

• Load up on produce: Add apples, pears, sweet potatoes, winter squash, pumpkins, and Brussels sprouts to your meals for natural fiber, vitamin C, and beta-carotene.

• Consider supplements: Enriching your diet with the best vitamins and other health nutrients for your individual healthcare needs is an excellent way to prepare yourself for the upcoming colder weather as we enter into the cough and cold season.

• Support gut and immune health: Incorporate mushrooms, which contain beta-glucans to help regulate immune function. Consider probiotics and other ways to support your body’s immune system.

• Keep food safe: Cons a food thermometer during tailgates and holiday cooking, and refrigerate perishables within two hours.

3. Maintain Physical and Mental Activity

• Stay active: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week, balancing outdoor walks in the crisp air with indoor workouts like yoga or strength training.

• Prioritize sleep: Stick to a consistent schedule of 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night to keep your immune system strong.

• Support mental well-being: Watch for shifts in mood or energy as daylight shortens, make time for rest and rejuvenation.

• Plan time for social connections: Consider activities that take advantage of the beautiful fall foliage and cooler temperatures. Get outside whenever possible!

4. For Elders: Prevent Falls and Injuries

• Clear pathways: Remove loose rugs, electrical cords, and clutter from common walking areas and stairs.

• Improve lighting: Use nightlights in hallways and bathrooms to navigate safely during darker mornings and nights.

• Check vision and balance: Review your medications with a doctor or your pharmacist to manage dizziness, and keep up with routine vision and hearing tests.

It All Starts With A Problem…Like a Puzzle To Solve

…a child who can’t swallow pills, the patient with a gluten allergy, a pet who’s health is at risk, or a much-needed drug that’s in short supply.

Often times, individuals are not served by mass-produced medications. Compounding is the art and science of creating personalized solutions and a compounding pharmacy can personalize medications, providing unique treatments for the patients we have dedicated ourselves as clinicians to serve.

Using specialized tools such as flavorings, unique dosage forms, innovative delivery methods, we work with each prescriber to fill the gaps in health care and to curate solutions specific to each patient’s needs. Many compounds are specialized medication combinations or compounded in other forms that are not otherwise commercially available.

Compounding is a great option for people who:
• Have allergies to common ingredients (casein, gluten, dyes, preservatives, sugar, etc.)
• Can’t take medication as prescribed due to unpleasant side effects or lack of improvement
• Adjust to precise dosing amounts
• Need custom medicine strengths and dosage forms (like creams or suppositories)
