What’s the most necessary skill for rolling, sitting, crawling, and standing? Abdominal activation and control!Hand to Feet play is a great way to encourage abdominal activation, body awareness, and midline play. All of which are necessary for hitting major developmental milestones.#pediatricphysiotherapy #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills #purposefulplay #developmentalmilestones #developmentaldisabilities
If you’re concerned about rotational preferences or Torticollis, there’s no need to wait for confirmation before adding these into your routine! The earlier you address tightness and preferences, the easier intervention will be! These are great, general stretches to begin with, but if your baby has emerging preferences or Torticollis, they still need skilled intervention. Easy variations to your baby’s routine that can make a BIG impact. Changing directions and varying how you hold or position your baby inherently encourages them to look a certain direction. Things like toy placement, light fixtures, mirrors, and windows that attract your baby’s attention also play a role. There doesn’t need to be a specific schedule for variation or changes every “x” amount of days. No need to add more things to track to your day. Just do it when you think about it! Struggling with rotational preferences or visual tracking? Head, shoulders, knees, and toes (and everything in between)!! Torticollis affects so much more than just the neck. The earlier intervention is started, the less severe the restrictions will be. AND the more comfortable your baby will be! A tight neck, leads to a tight trunk. Which will then cause the opposite side to stretch and lead to imbalanced muscle activation. All of this can lead to difficulty reaching milestones, and in severe cases, can even lead to visual changes. If you’re worried about any of the signs above, don’t “wait and see!” Reach out and get a consult scheduled. The sooner, the better!#developmentalmilestones #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills #torticollis
