The chin shadow is the icing on the cake of the lower face 🎂

Our eyes recognize aging as breaks in transitions

The smoother the transitions, the younger we look

Areas normally filled in isolation (chin, lips, marionettes, etc.) become undetectable when the shadowing here is softened

While shrinking bone and skin laxity are primary culprits, this bow-tie depression can be a natural anatomical feature

SAVE this post and ask your advanced injector about this area

Conservative is key 🔑…While softening this transition zone is the goal, the area shouldn't have the same exact projections as its adjacent features

Two main factors👇🏻can cause the chin to move upwards with age:

1️⃣ A strong and active chin muscle (mentalis muscle)
2️⃣ A shrinking jawbone (mandible)

As we age, some people develop a chronic, subconscious contracting of the chin muscle

This makes the chin look like it’s always pulling up towards the lower lip, blunting the youthful v-shape of the lower face

✅ Botox in the chin puts the chin in a more relaxed state, slightly elongating it and making the lower face appear more youthful

Bonus: it also helps smooth chin dimpling 💯

Also with age, the jawbone loses density and volume

This shrinking can make the lower face appear shorter and cause the chin to move up

SAVE to improve eyelid ptosis. More detail HERE ⤵️

Iatrogenic eyelid ptosis is rare, but a reality

Iatrogenic = caused by a medical treatment, like Botox💉

Eyelid ptosis = lashline sits too far past colored part of eye 👁

It can result from improper placement🫠

Or if you don’t follow after-care instructions (like getting a face-down massage💆‍♀️ right after botox)

➡️ Eyelid ptosis is DIFFERENT than upper eyelid SKIN looking worse or feeling heavy (ie from too much Botox in the forehead)

‼️To reduce your risk:
- Ensure your injector is experienced
- Follow your injector’s after-care instructions

IF it happens:
✔️ Botox above the lash line works on a different muscle to help raise the lid (pretarsal orbicularis oculi)
✔️ Eye drops like Upneeq work on an even different muscle to help raise the lid (Mueller’s muscle)
✔️ You have to wait until it fully wears off, as the above interventions may only offer subtle improvements

How Botox helps OR hurts jowls ⤵️

✔️Botox at the FRONT of the jaw (or slightly under it) relaxes the upper part of the platysma muscle (pull-down muscle)

This is often referred to as the Nefertiti lift

When the platysma can’t pull down as much, the upper face muscles (which are lifting muscles), work harder

And ultimately improve the jawline by lifting overlying tissue (ie jowls)

The jawline improvement is subtle, but a FAVORITE among patients in my practice

✔️Botox at BACK of the jaw relaxes & shrinks an enlarged masseter muscle (jaw muscle)

But if the masseter muscle is large enough, its shrinking can make the jowls in front of the muscle and the tissues over the muscle lose support

This will NOT happen to everyone

The risk is higher in those who are older, have preexisting jowls, or poor skin elasticity

💡If this makes sense, my other videos will too

Botox can ruin your smile in more ways than one 🫠

But paralysis of the DLI is unfortunately a front-runner

The proximity of the DLI to commonly treated areas like the chin and DAOs make it an easy but unintentional target for botox 🎯

A crooked smile caused by one paralyzed DLI is more common than a small one caused by both DLIs being paralyzed

Temple aging can start as early as your 20s ⤵️

And becomes noticeable in your 40s

It's normal for female temples to have a slight, natural concavity

But if they start to look sunken:

▪️ The face will look older
▪️ The brows will sit lower
▪️ You’ll lose the youthful shape of your face

⚠️ If you're considering filler, you'll rarely go wrong starting with the temples

📌 SAVE this post & ask your injector about temple filler

PS: Sculptra is also a great option for the temples 🙌🏻

READ THIS 👇🏻 before getting forehead botox

The forehead is the most complex area to treat...all injectors will agree

This is because it can have huge effects on eyebrow & eyelid position...the 2 things you care about the most

🚫You shouldn’t get the forehead treated without the frown line area treated

Botox in the frown line muscles support the brows for Botox in the forehead

And reduces the risk of the brows getting or feeling lower after forehead Botox

❗️⚠️Be cautious if you have heavy eyelid skin⚠️❗️

The forehead muscle is the ONLY muscle that allows you to lift up this skin

Relaxing it may make the skin look or feel worse
