So what happened when they took out all the fat? . 👉They added in more carbs. . And NOW what’s popular? . 👉Low carb diets . Yet, so many diets like weight watchers or a basic caloric restriction diet don’t take into consideration the macros (fats, protein, carbs) or the source of the macros. . However, a recent study done in Boston found that the source of your carbs matters! . If you eat carbs from grains, starchy vegetables, and refined sugar you actually had an increased risk of: . 🚫 Inflammation 🚫 Insulin Resistance 🚫 High cholesterol 🚫 CANCER! . Let’s discuss some of the myths about hormone therapy for menopause. . ❌MYTH No. 1: hormone therapy can lead to breast cancer. If you produce excess estrogen and you’re not supplementing with progesterone to bring it back into balance, then you’re actually at greater risk of breast cancer. Research shows that synthetic progestin is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer, but that bio-identical progesterone doesn’t come with this same risk (and this is the one we prescribe). . ❌MYTH No. 2: hormone therapy causes weight gain. Often women experience weight gain during menopause. This is caused by an imbalance in their levels of estrogen and progesterone. Increased estrogen and decreased estrogen both trigger weight gain. The key is to monitor hormone levels through testing and prescribe the correct amount of bio-identical hormones to bring the levels into balance. . ❌MYTH No. 3: hormone therapy increases the risk of heart disease. Heart disease is the #1 killer in women and that risk goes up at the time of menopause. Estrogen, especially when taken through the skin, does not increase the risk of blood clots or heart disease, in fact, it actually protects your heart. . If you are perimenopausal or menopausal, we strongly recommend getting your hormone levels tested (both pre- & post-treatment) and finding a doctor who knows how to prescribe hormones correctly and safely.
