Anxiety or Panic Attack?
Try EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping
I had heard about EFT for years, but didn't know much about it and had never tried it. During my Reiki training, I was formally introduced to it and learned the technique. But honestly, I was still a bit skeptical.
Then, one day, I had some pretty bad anxiety out of nowhere. I felt it building & building. I put the EFT to the test and I was so surprised how quickly and well it COMPLETELY calmed me down. Since then, I have tapped into the practice (I love a good pun!) a few times and each time, within minutes, I was shifting out of panic into calm ππ½ββοΈ
How does it work?
ππ½ EFT mimics acupuncture as you tap along energetic meridian points on the body naming how you are feeling in the anxious moment and then saying how you desire to feel (like a mantra )
For example: "My body is reacting to anxiety, but I choose to feel calm and safe"
As you continue repeating the mantra, begin tapping on these meridian points:
Top of head
Above eyebrows
Temples
Under eyes
Upper lip
Chin
Collar bones
Sides of rib cage
Outer palms (pinky sides)
Repeat
Continue repeating the mantra, cycling the tapping points, and keeping awareness on your breath with the intention of slowing it down
Pro Tip: I sometimes forget a tapping point or two, and that is ok - I have found it is not about perfection but about keeping the practice going. Like anything, the more you practice, the easier it becomes
β³ How long is this practice? Everyone is different. For some, down regulation can happen in minutes while others might have more intense attacks or deeper traumas that take more time and patience to shift. I personally keep the practice going for about a minute or two after my physiological responses have calmed down.
Give it a try and practice the technique. In the event you have anxiety creeping in, you have this modality in your repertoire to help you
