18 years of Amy. 💜

Today, we’re celebrating Amy Willis and the incredible commitment, knowledge, and heart she has brought to HavenHouse over the past 18 years!

Amy has helped carry our mission through new chapters, big changes, and plenty of behind-the-scenes work. From securing grant support to helping patients, families, and caregivers share their stories, she connects people to the heart of HavenHouse and helps make our work possible.

Some of her contributions are easy to see. Others happen quietly, long before a story is shared or a milestone is celebrated. All of them matter.

Amy, thank you for growing with HavenHouse, caring about the details, and continuing to find new ways to make a difference. Eighteen years is something special, and so are you.

💜 We LOVE our meal groups!

Every day, HavenHouse St. Louis provides breakfast and dinner for the patients, families, and caregivers staying with us. Our incredible volunteer meal groups play a huge part in making that possible!

Recently, we've had the pleasure of welcoming SLU APO, The St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer, and TEKsystems into our kitchen. Each group brings something special to the table, from delicious meals and creative menus to the kindness and care that make our house feel a little more like home.

For families who have traveled far from home for medical care, a warm meal means so much more than dinner. It's one less thing to plan, one less expense to manage, and a reminder that an entire community is here to support them.

And we'd love to welcome YOU into our kitchen! 🍽️

Our November and December meal calendars are filling up quickly, but there are still opportunities to get involved. Gather your friends, family, coworkers, or community group and help us bring a little comfort to the table.

TODAY!! October 8th is DAF Day!

But first: what exactly is a DAF?

A Donor-Advised Fund, or DAF, is essentially a charitable giving account. You put money into the account, receive the tax benefits when you contribute, and then recommend gifts from that account to nonprofits you care about, like HavenHouse St. Louis.

If you already have a DAF, giving to HavenHouse St. Louis just got much easier.

We recently added a new Donor-Advised Fund page to our website where you can search for your DAF provider and start directing a gift to HavenHouse right from the page.

When Audra comes to St. Louis for medical care, she gets pretty excited about staying at her “favorite hotel.”

At HavenHouse, that means challenging Mom to the Bluey video game, learning chess from one of our staff members, or heading to the kitchen for Cheez-Its or a Coca-Cola (which Mom says she’s only allowed to have here.)

Mostly, though, she gets to just be Audra.

You might not realize how much medical care has already been packed into her five little years until you notice she has Band-Aids on four fingertips from that day’s pokes and blood draws. Those little Band-Aids are a reminder of what she gets a break from here, where she can get back to the important business of being five.

HavenHouse St. Louis gives Audra a place to just be a kid during medical travel and gives her mom the community of support she desperately needs. And in 2027, Pace Properties + Avison Young are becoming a big part of that community.

We’re humbled to announce that Pace Properties + Avison Young have chosen HavenHouse as their 2027 Charity of Choice, with a $25,000 commitment and employees who will spend time throughout the year cooking homemade meals for guests like Audra.

Earlier this week, The St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer joined us at HavenHouse St. Louis to cook dinner for our guests and celebrate the naming of their fireplace lounge, a space their generosity helps provide for patients, families, and caregivers to rest and recharge during their medical travel.

“I was given 8 months to live, but I continue to fight.”

Sarah was first diagnosed with breast cancer at just 33 years old. Since then, she has faced 3 diagnoses, 12 surgeries, countless treatments, and more pain than she ever imagined possible.

Now, with her cancer back for a third time, treatment once again means needles, pills, scans, surgeries, and long drives away from home.

And at the end of those exhausting days, Sarah comes to HavenHouse.

“As a traveling patient, one of my greatest needs is simple: a safe, welcoming place to sleep and eat. HavenHouse gives me exactly that.”

Here, she can rest. She can share a meal. She can find friendship in conversations with people who understand what it means to be far from home during medical treatment.

In Sarah’s words, it’s “a piece of heaven in my unpredictable and difficult battle.”

Toilet bowl cleaner might seem like a strange thing to ask for after sharing a story like Sarah’s. But that’s part of what makes HavenHouse work. While our guests are worried about diagnoses, treatments, surgeries, and everything that comes with them, the ordinary things like cleaning supplies and drinks are already taken care of.

Right now, we need Dr. Pepper and toilet bowl cleaner to help keep HavenHouse feeling like home for Sarah and every guest who walks through our doors.
