Have you ever seen a teal pumpkin on someone's doorstep at Halloween? There's a pretty special reason it's there! đź’›
Picture a little one heading out trick-or-treating, excited to show off their costume and fill their bag with treats. But when they reach the next house, they discover that none of the candy is safe for them to eat.
For children with food allergies, moments like these can make Halloween a little tricky. And that's exactly why the Teal Pumpkin Project exists!
Created by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), the project encourages families to offer non-food treats alongside their usual Halloween candy, giving more children the chance to participate in the fun.
Want to get involved this Halloween? It's easier than you might think!
Start by putting together a small bowl of non-food goodies. Think stickers, glow sticks, mini toys, or playing cards. Keep them separate from your candy, then place a teal pumpkin or a Teal Pumpkin Project sign somewhere visible outside your home.
You can paint your own teal pumpkin, purchase a reusable one, or download a free printable sign from Food Allergy Research & Education
And if you're heading out trick-or-treating with your little one, keep an eye out for those teal pumpkins! They're a signal that non-food treats are available at that home.
We love seeing simple ideas like this help make Halloween a little more welcoming for children and families in our communities. ✨
