Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers, and the entire community. AFSP provides opportunities for survivors of suicide loss to get involved through a wide variety of educational, outreach, and awareness efforts. AFSP’s growing network of more than 50 local chapters nationwide join together those who have lost someone to suicide, individuals with mental disorders and their families, mental health professionals, community and business leaders, and others interested in preventing suicide. Our chapter volunteers deliver innovative prevention programs to schools and businesses, reach out to survivors of suicide loss, organize fundraising events, and act as a go-to resource for their entire community. They are at the forefront of increasing the public’s awareness of suicide as a public health issue that is preventable. Please join us today to help build a world without suicide.

As a clinical psychologist whose research focuses on issues surrounding su***de, Yossi Levi-Belz has come to learn that suffering does not end with the su***de event.

Recent studies show that over 60 people are profoundly affected by each su***de death. This means that every year, about 50 million people become part of a group known as su***de loss survivors.

We talk a lot about physical safety on the jobsite, but inclusion is a safety issue, too. Workers who feel valued and heard are more likely to speak up, ask for help, and look out for one another.

This Construction Inclusion Week, join us in recognizing a truly safe jobsite is one where everyone belongs. 💙

"A disAbility isn't a weakness, it's knowledge and strength." --RJ Mitte

We are sending so much love and support to those affected by the sudden passing of RJ Mitte--an incredible human, artist, philanthropist, and activist. 💜🩵

In 2020, RJ created a beautiful video about mental health awareness when he partnered with the Mental Health Coalition and Kenneth Cole. The "How Are You, Really?" campaign encouraged folks to check on their peers even when they seem okay. ♡

You are not alone. The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7/365 via call, text, chat, and videophone (HoH). The Crisis Text Line, 741741, is also available 24/7. Both services are free and confidential.

Check on your strong friends. Check on your quiet friends. Check on your friends. 🫂

RJ Mitte, the "Breaking Bad" actor and disability advocate, has died at 34. Throughout his career, Mitte, who lived with cerebral palsy, championed greater representation and inclusion for people with disabilities.

His legacy is a reminder of the importance of mental health and making support accessible to those who need it.

💙 If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

After Ericka's daughter told her she didn't want to be alive anymore she knew she had to do something.

Ericka got involved with her local AFSP Chapter events including the Community Walk, tabling with education materials at events in her area, and becoming a PR Ambassador for the chapter’s board of directors while also finding a supportive community.

“The love and support of the community of AFSP volunteers has helped me in ways I cannot express, through such a difficult time in my family’s life."

Read the blog:

Ericka Llerena first found her way to the National Capital Area Chapter after her 16-year-old daughter came to her the night before Mother’s Day, telling her she didn’t want to be alive anymore. Finding resources, support and comfort for both herself and her daughter, Ericka became involved in c...
