🎯 Pelvic xray: Multiple rice grain-like calcifications with diffuse distribution in the soft tissues, in addition to a right hip prosthesis. Findings are suggestive of cysticercosis.
🎯 Cysticercosis is a parasitic tissue infection caused by ingestion of tapeworm eggs through a faecal-oral transmission or auto-infection. Humans act as a definitive host in this disease. In skeletal muscles, cysticerci appear as oblong calcific specks in the skeletal muscles parallel to the muscle fibres, giving a characteristic appearance which has been termed rice-grain calcification owing to its resemblance to rice grains.

📣 We are excited to announce we are now taking applications for our annual Susan Lindahl Memorial Scholarship.

We’ve been awarding these prizes since 1998, in honor of the legacy of Susan Lindahl, whose dedication alongside her husband, founding PAOS president Joe Lindahl, helped build the foundation of our organization.

What began as a single $500 scholarship has grown significantly. This year, the PAOS Foundation is proud to offer four $5,000 scholarships to outstanding second-year PA students pursuing a career in orthopaedics.

Our good friend and colleague, Dr.Nanci Rice, spoke with the first year PA Class of 2026. Dr. Rice, a retired member of the School of Health Professions provided a genuinely engaging peek into her personal, professional, and academic experiences. Her talk was entitled "Conversation with a PA: A 50-Year Journey."

Dr.Rice was instrumental in creating the BSHS program at Stony Brook and spearheaded the school's Medical Ethics curriculum.

We sincerely thank her for sharing her story with her friends and a new generation of PA professionals.
