Sing On UConn -- 2026!!

This year's Low Voice festival was another exciting day of rehearsing and performing with singers joining us from across CT and beyond. The UConn Glee Club (directed by Sarah Kaufold), singers from Collegium Musicum (directed by Eric Rice), the Chorus of Tenors and Basses of the Handel and Haydn Society Youth Choruses (directed by Kevin McDonald), the UConn Conn-Men led by Brayden Kramer, the Flower Power Barbershop Quartet, and the Festival Choir conducted by Gabriel Löfvall flooded the stage of vdM and filled the room with the incredible sound of almost 200 low voices. The pictures here can't begin to capture that sound!

Huge thanks to all our colleagues who brought students and spent the day with us -- a day to remember!

An absolute thrill to have masterclass and rehearsal time with Voces8 during their recent visit to UConn!

Photos are taken from Concert Choir's afternoon clinic, performing Daugirdas' festive "Plaudite, Psallite", and Chamber Singers in rehearsal and performance of Lauridsen's serene "O Nata Lux" . The chords are still ringing and we are deeply grateful to Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts and the supporters of the Lenard Chamber Music Series, for bringing VOCES8 back to Storrs and making the day possible.

To Barney, Savannah, Virginia, Katie, Monty, Euan, Christopher, Dominic and Paul: THANK YOU for all that you do, around the world, and for sharing it with us for a few brief and deep moments.

UConn Ignite is a campus-wide three-week fundraising campaign for student organizations.
We are thrilled to announce we are participating in this year's campaign, raising money for our singers across all ensembles at UConn Choirs.

UConn Choirs welcome everyone - singers, families, choir alumni, and more - to actively support the choral singing and learning happening at the University of Connecticut. We are dedicated to choral music at the highest level, exploring music in a thoughtful way from all backgrounds and cultures. Throughout the year, we have many concerts both on and off campus, welcome renowned guests to campus, host festivals, workshops and special events, participate in choir traditions, and more.

So much joy in the room!

This past Sunday, the UConn Chamber Singers sang at the Choral Arts New England (CANE) Annual Awards Ceremony - an event where grant recipients across New England (including UConn Music alums Jonathan Harvey, Joe D'Eugenio and Ehren Brown) were awarded for their innovative work, and where Jamie Spillane was honored with the 2026 CANE Lifetime Achievement Award. Being together and singing with the Ledyard High School Chamber Choir led by Melanie Cometa and choral leaders from across New England was a moment that will stay with all of us.

We invite students who are applying to UConn to join us in Storrs at Fall Visit Days on October 10th and October 25th!

In addition to campus tours and information sessions about admissions, UConn Music will be offering a presentation about our degrees, program structure, audition tips, careers, and alumni success. The Music Department presentation will begin at 10:30am in von der Mehden Recital Hall and move to Music Building 102 at 10:55am. Students will also have the opportunity to hear student performers, ask questions, meet our faculty, and tour the School of Fine Arts facilities.

Family Weekend Concert 2026! Congratulations to the members of Collegium Musicum, UConntabile, Chamber Singers, Glee Club and Concert Choir for a fantastic start to our on-campus performances this year. Photos from our 13th annual Young Conductors Symposium!

This past Thursday, high school students and directors across CT came together for an invigorating day exploring music and leadership on and off the podium. Students heard presentations by faculty Jess Dickerson, Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth and Dr. Cara Bernard with break-out discussions led by junior music education students, saw rehearsal demonstrations of UConntabile (led by DMA student Sarah Kaufold) and Chamber Singers (led by Dr. Voth), and had opportunities for Q and A with a student panel, pictured here with Dr. Eric Rice. An inspiring day with lots of fresh ideas for the start of the new year!

Today is the day we celebrate the legacy of former Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Peter Bagley on the event of his birthday. Dr. Bagley's impact on the UConn choral program and hundreds of former students is legendary and those students have themselves had a significant impact on the greater choral community. Happy Birthday, Dr. Bagley, and thanks for your many gifts!

Dear friends, I just want to express my unending gratitude to all of you who have given to the Choral Development Fund. So far with the matching grants, we have raised almost $70,000 to support UConn Choirs long into the future. What is amazing is that donations have come from so many alumni, so many parents (past and current), and so many wonderful friends of UConn Choirs including choral directors and friends from around New England and the world.
