We’d love to spend the evening with you. 🤍

Join us for the Heartline Classic Cocktail Reception on Monday, October 19, at Cedar Hill Golf & Country Club in Livingston.

We’ll gather for cocktails, music, and warm conversations with our steadfast community of family, friends, local businesses, donors, and sponsors who stand with families through life’s most difficult transitions.

We’ll honor Jonathan Strelzik and his love for the game, hear personal stories of the impact your support has, celebrate the golf winners and applaud the sponsors, donors, and community partners whose generosity has helped bring the Heartline Classic to life. Our reception begins at 4 PM, with the program starting at 4:15 PM.

Browse the silent auction, bid on gifts from beloved local businesses, and share an evening with people who believe no one should navigate life’s hardest transitions alone.

Your presence helps Center for the Heart make compassionate, non-clinical support more accessible to individuals and families navigating serious illness, Alzheimer’s and dementia, caregiving, end-of-life transitions, and grief.

Whether you’re a longtime friend or joining us for the first time, we’re grateful to have you with us.

What brings comfort to someone nearing the end of life is deeply personal.

A familiar routine, a meaningful conversation, or simply having space to rest may matter more than we realize. But even with the best intentions, it's easy to make assumptions about what someone needs.

That's why conversations about comfort are so important.

When possible, ask your loved one what helps them feel most at ease, who they would like nearby, and what they would prefer to avoid. Their wishes may change over time, and making room for those changes is part of respecting their choices.

These conversations don't need to cover everything at once. Even a simple question like, “What would feel most comfortable for you today?” can open the door to understanding what matters to them.

Our blog, How to Support a Loved One Who Is Dying, explores ways to offer compassionate support while honoring each person's needs and preferences.

When a child is grieving, it’s natural to want to find the right words to make them feel better. But grief isn't something we need to fix.

Sometimes, simply listening, acknowledging their feelings, and letting them know it's okay to be sad can offer meaningful support.

Children experience grief in their own ways, and they deserve space to express their emotions without feeling pressured to move past them.

Our blog, "What to Say to a Grieving Child", explores how honest conversations and compassionate listening can help adults support children through loss.

Every caregiver deserves care. You don't have to navigate this journey in isolation.

Connecting with others, learning about available resources, and making time for your own well-being can help you. Caring for someone else starts with caring for yourself.

When someone you love is living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, there can be a lot of information to take in.

But information becomes more useful when families have opportunities to turn it into conversations and choices.

That might mean writing down questions to bring to a physician, talking about how caregiving responsibilities will be shared, learning what community resources are available, or beginning conversations about future preferences while your loved one can still be part of them.

Planning does not mean knowing exactly what will happen or having every decision made.

It can simply mean creating space to talk about what matters before decisions become more complicated.

A few questions can help families begin:

• What questions do we want to bring to the physician?

• How will caregiving responsibilities be shared?

• What preferences has our loved one expressed?

• What would be helpful for our family to talk about now?

Non-clinical support can help families organize their questions, identify topics they want to discuss, and prepare for conversations with the appropriate professionals.

Center for the Heart provides compassionate support for individuals, caregivers, and families navigating these conversations.

When someone you love is dying, it can be hard to know what to say, what to do, or how to help.

You may worry about saying the wrong thing. You may be balancing caregiving, family conversations, everyday responsibilities, and emotions that are difficult to put into words.

There is no perfect way to navigate this time. But there are ways to offer meaningful support.

Find practical guidance on being present, respecting your loved one's preferences, offering everyday help, and caring for yourself along the way.

If you’re supporting someone at the end of life—or know someone who is—this is a resource to read, save, and share.
