Most of us have a public version and a private version of ourselves.

The public one is reasonably together. Functional. Capable of maintaining conversations and meeting obligations and appearing like someone who has a handle on their life.

The private one is the one that exists after everyone else has gone home. The one that sits in silence and feels things that would be difficult to explain. The one that carries doubts and fears and insecurities that the public version has learned to perform its way around. The one that is genuinely not sure about things that the public version sounds confident about.

I think most people would be surprised how similar their private version is to everyone else’s. How universal the gap between the presented self and the real self actually is.

God is the only one who sees both without any version of the performance in between.

He sees the private one. The tired one. The one behind the capability and the composure and the everything is fine.

And He loves what He sees there. Not despite the private version. Not in spite of it.

Because of it. Because that is where the real person lives.

You do not have to perform for God. He already loves who He actually sees.

AVELOZ is a spurge shrub native to tropical South America. Called Aveloz in Brazil and Alvelos in Spanish speaking countries, it is known as mataverruga (meaning kill-wart) by the local natives.
