On World Pharmacists Day, I’m reminded that being a pharmacist is about so much more than dispensing medications. We care for patients, mentor future professionals, build businesses, and advocate for policies that shape our communities.
I recently attended a press conference with Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. I was there alongside Jackie Toledo, who strongly supported independent pharmacy owners during her time as a state representative. Rep. Alvarez gave an amazing speech, too. And just to be clear, I wasn’t a speaker—I was just posing for the photo! 😊
Anthony, one of the speakers, came up and asked if I remembered him. I couldn’t place him at first. Then he told me I had taught him at the USF Taneja College of Pharmacy.
I have always encouraged my students to become entrepreneurs and take part in shaping policy. Seeing Anthony there as both the owner of Bell Drugs and an advocate for change was one of the most satisfying moments for me as a pharmacist and educator.
Anthony, I’m proud of you and wish you and Bell Drugs continued success. Happy World Pharmacists Day to you and to pharmacists everywhere who make a difference far beyond the pharmacy counter! 💊👏
