Imagine fixing a leaking heart valve through a small incision instead of major surgery.

That’s now possible for more patients thanks to FDA approval of Edwards Lifesciences’ PASCAL Precision system for tricuspid valve repair. Severe tricuspid regurgitation can leave people exhausted, swollen, and limited—even with medication. This catheter-based option is designed to grasp and bring the valve leaflets together, aiming to improve quality of life and function for those at elevated surgical risk.

Edwards is now the only company with both repair and replacement therapies for mitral and tricuspid valves in the U.S.

What does this mean for patients who previously had limited interventional choices?

Imagine a surgical system that plans, navigates, and assists—all in one place—so surgeons can focus on the patient instead of switching between tools.

Medtronic’s Stealth AXiS just made TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list for precisely this reason. It brings AI-powered, patient-specific planning together with live spinal tracking (no repeated imaging) and robotic precision for complex spine, cranial, and ENT procedures.

The result? A more continuous flow of data and insights from pre-op through post-op, designed to support safer, more personalized care.

Imagine a robotic tool for knee replacement that’s wireless, handheld, and ready for a standard operating room—no dedicated suite required.

That’s the TMINI system from THINK Surgical, now available longer under an exclusive multi-year distribution agreement with Zimmer Biomet specifically for use with the Persona Knee System. Surgeons get software-guided accuracy for implant placement while keeping flexibility in workflow and setup.

Patients and care teams benefit from more consistent alignment options without extra infrastructure.

Hospital supply costs aren’t spiking—they’re quietly compounding.

Vizient’s updated projections point to roughly 3% med-surg inflation and just under 3% on pharmaceuticals through mid-2027.

Do the math: 3% a year for five years is about 15%. Add higher utilization from an older population, more chronic disease, surgical robotics, and expensive new therapies, and the pressure on margins gets real fast.

The article breaks down why even “low single-digit” increases matter and why supply chain, pharmacy, and clinicians have to plan together instead of in parallel.

If you work in hospital operations, finance, or supply chain, this is the planning number—not the one-year bid.

Ever wonder why hospitals and clinics still scramble for the right supplies even as care moves out of the main hospital?

DHL Supply Chain has opened a new centralized model that brings inventory and medical-support work into one hub, then moves drugs, supplies, and equipment straight to the point of care.

With inpatient volume up 5.3%, outpatient up 9.8%, and supply costs climbing, the goal is clearer visibility, less complexity, and more space returned to clinical buildings.

See how the consolidated service center works and why the timing matters: https://www.statsurgicalsupply.com/news/dhl-supply-chain-opens-centralized-hub-model-to-fix-fragmented-health-system-supplies

Same clinical tool. Completely new logistics object.

Medtronic just received FDA clearance for the LigaSure RAS Maryland instrument on the Hugo robotic system. Surgeons already trust LigaSure. Supply teams now have to stock that trust under a different catalog number, with a different generator, different inspection steps, and different consignment rules.

Look-alike laparoscopic jaws will not work in a Hugo room. Incomplete carts delay incision more often than missing robots do. If your materials management and SPD teams have not already rebuilt the robotic energy tray, the first cases will expose the gap.

A missing single-port cannula, a late imaging slot, or one non-compatible catheter can idle a room that cost far more than the supply. Mid-September clearances and launches are changing what has to be staged, when trays are opened, and which packs cannot be borrowed from a general med-surg cart. Volume only pays if the pack is complete.

A new filter just entered the TAVR tray—and hospitals will have to decide if one protection device is still enough.

The FDA cleared Emboline’s Emboliner to capture debris during transcatheter aortic valve replacement. It is built for full-arch coverage (brain and body), not only selected cerebral vessels. Launch is planned later in 2026.

More captured debris. Noninferior 30-day death/stroke/kidney outcomes versus SENTINEL. Highest reported technical success in a pivotal TAVR protection study.

The open question for labs: does more debris in the bag mean fewer events in everyday cases—or just a second high-dollar disposable to stock?

Why would a Minnesota CDMO buy a Michigan metals shop?

Because robotic tools and catheter components are not commodities. When MIM, additive manufacturing, and finish machining sit in the same network, OEMs get a faster path—and hospitals get a better shot that the instrument set actually shows up.

We broke down what this deal means for surgical buyers, not just manufacturers.

🚨 FDA Warning: Neurosurgical Supply Shortage May Continue Through 2026

The FDA is warning healthcare providers about shortages involving specialized neurosurgical patties and sponges used in brain and spine procedures.

These products are critical for:
âś” Protecting delicate tissue
âś” Absorbing fluids during surgery
âś” Maintaining surgical visibility

Hospitals and surgery centers are being advised to conserve inventory and secure alternative suppliers where possible.
