My current wellness stack. 🤍

Not the newest supplements. Not a complicated routine. Just five things that have become foundational to how I care for my body, mind, and spirit.

📖 The Word. Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Time in Scripture, meditating on truth, and keeping my thoughts rooted in God’s Word is where I want every day to begin.

🏋🏼‍♀️ Strength training. Building muscle, supporting metabolic health, maintaining bone strength, and investing in a body that’s capable for decades to come.

🍯 Raw honey. A simple, delicious staple in our home.

🌿 Nettle infusion. One of my favorite nourishing herbal traditions and a regular part of my hydration routine.

🐟 Rosita cod liver oil. A family staple and a source of omega-3 fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins A and D.

Are there other supplements I use? Absolutely.

Other habits I prioritize? Plenty.

But if you asked me what my daily foundations will look like 10 years from now, I’d be surprised if these five weren’t still part of them.

I’m less interested in constantly adding more and more interested in being consistent with what matters.

Faith. Strength. Nourishment. Stewardship.

The simple things, done faithfully, over time. 🤍

What’s one thing in your wellness routine you hope never changes?

Just because your body shows signs of ovulation doesn’t necessarily mean ovulation occurred. 👀

Cervical mucus, basal body temperature, and cycle-tracking apps can all give us valuable clues about what’s happening throughout the menstrual cycle.

But there’s a difference between predicting ovulation and confirming it.

Ovulation is so much more than releasing an egg. It’s what allows the corpus luteum to form and produce progesterone—a hormone essential for preparing and maintaining the uterine lining, supporting the luteal phase, and early pregnancy.

And here’s something many women don’t realize: You can have a period-like bleed without ovulating.

This is why I love helping women understand their reproductive physiology and use tools that give us a clearer picture of what’s actually happening.

Urinary PdG monitoring, appropriately timed progesterone testing, and other methods can help provide evidence that ovulation occurred. No single at-home test is perfect, but the information can be incredibly valuable.

Your menstrual cycle is giving you information about your health. Are you listening? 🤍🌿

Pregnancy “anemia” isn’t always what it looks like.

During pregnancy, plasma volume expands dramatically — often around 40–50% — while red blood cell mass also increases, just more slowly.

So hemoglobin and hematocrit can drop simply because the blood is more diluted.

That’s why pregnancy has different hemoglobin cutoffs than a non-pregnant woman.

At the same time, the body lowers hepcidin, increases iron absorption, raises transferrin, and redirects iron toward mom, placenta, and baby.

So the question isn’t just, “Is hemoglobin low?”

It’s: Is this normal physiologic dilution, or true iron deficiency?

That’s why ferritin, transferrin saturation, TIBC/transferrin, CBC indices, and CRP matter too.

Pregnancy physiology is not broken physiology. It’s adapted physiology. 🌿

My last patient of the day didn’t get adjusted. And that’s a GOOD thing. 🤍

The goal of chiropractic care isn’t to get adjusted every time you walk through the door.

The goal is to assess what your body and nervous system are telling us—and respond accordingly.

Sometimes there’s something that needs to be addressed.
Sometimes there isn’t.

And when there isn’t? We leave it alone.

I don’t want your body dependent on an adjustment. I want to support your body’s ability to adapt, regulate, and function well on its own.

Because the adjustment isn’t the healer.

God designed your body with an incredible capacity to heal. Chiropractic is simply one way I support that design when the body needs it.

And sometimes, the best adjustment is the one you don’t need. 🤍

October’s giveaway feels a little extra special. 🤍📸

When I first moved to South Carolina, Tiffany McClure was actually the first friend I made here. Since then, she’s photographed some pretty important chapters of my life — she was my wedding photographer, and years later, she’s the woman behind my branding photos too.

So getting to support her small business and gift one South Carolina family the opportunity to have their own season of life captured by her feels pretty full-circle. 🥹

This October, Lux Chiropractic is gifting one family a $350 family photography session with Tiffany McClure, including a 15-minute session, one location, 15 edited high-resolution images, an online gallery, and print release. 📸

Because when we talk about health at Lux, we’re talking about more than what’s happening inside the body.

Connection is part of health, too.

Quality time. Being present. Laughing together. Getting outside. Feeling connected to the people you love most.

And while family pictures can sometimes feel like “everyone please just look at the camera and pretend we’re having fun” 😂, there’s something really special about intentionally setting aside time to be together — and having photographs that preserve this exact version of your family forever.

🤍 TO ENTER:
🔵Follow Dr. Olivia | Nervous System First Care & Tiffany McClure
🔵comment ME to enter your own family, or tag a friend whose family you’d love to nominate. You can do both, and every comment is another entry, so enter as many times as you’d like!

Open to families throughout South Carolina. Giveaway begins October 1, and we’ll randomly draw our winner October 7.

Who would you love to see step in front of the camera with their family this fall? Tag them below. 🤍

This month we have talked about the relationship between your nervous system and your gut. This week we will dive into ways we can support them both, signaling our body it is SAFE to digest.

Here are some small, doable habits that signal safety and support to your body before and during meals:

Pause before you eat 🌿 A few slow, long breaths before your first bite can shift your body toward "rest and digest" — the state your gut actually needs to do its job.

Chew — I mean really chew 🌿 Digestion is enhanced in your mouth, not just your stomach. Rushed bites mean your gut has to work harder.

Add fermented foods 🌿 Sauerkraut, pickled carrot sticks or other vegetables, kefir, greek yogurt, or even a splash of apple c***r vinegar before meals can support the bacteria that keeps your gut — and your hormones — balanced.

Drink WARM bone broth or herbal teas 🌿 Warm drinks have such a healing effect on your body. Ginger, peppermint, and chamomile have long been used to calm digestion and settle the nervous system at the same time.

Sit down for meals 🌿 Standing, rushing, eating in front of screen or eating in the car keeps your body in "go" mode, even if the food itself is nourishing.

Move your body gently after eating 🌿 A short walk supports digestion more than sitting or lying down or scrolling.

None of this requires a new supplement or a perfect diet. It requires a few intentional shifts — feeding your body in a way that tells it, we're safe, we can slow down here.

💬 Which of these do you already do? Which one will you try this week?

6 months postpartum, and I’m just now finding my footing with running again—and right now, that looks like run/walk intervals. 🤍

And I’m surprisingly loving it.

I used to be a pedal-to-the-metal kind of girl… And let’s be real, she’s still in there. 😂 But postpartum has taught me to appreciate the slow build.

For me, returning to movement started with getting consistent sleep. Then breath work, pelvic floor + core. (I’ve used Lindsey Bomgren ‘s postpartum programming after both births—her 30-day schedule is SO good for slowly reconnecting with your body.)

Then came lifting. First consistently, then progressively.

One thing I’ve learned: postpartum, your muscles aren’t always the limiting factor. Your pelvic floor and core may need more time even when the rest of you feels ready to GO.

Now I’m lifting, swimming, and finally running again—but still taking my time with the run/walk.

I’m learning there’s a lot of joy in meeting your body where it is and watching its capacity grow. 🌱

No rush. No “bounce back.” Just rebuilding something strong, one little step at a time.

And boyyyy does it feel good. 🍂🤍

What movement made you feel like yourself again postpartum⁉️

When a little body is under the weather, my goal isn’t to panic or immediately try to shut down every symptom. 🤍

Their body is working hard. So around our house, we focus on giving it what it needs to do that work well—and removing some of the extra demands when we can.

Think: rest, nourishment, hydration + minerals, sunshine, fresh air, warmth, and lots of margin. 🌿

These are some of the things I like to keep on hand + simple ways we support our kids when they need a little extra TLC.

And sometimes one of the best things we can do is simply let them be sick. Cancel the plans. Skip the hard play. Make the broth. Sit in the sunshine. Snuggle up. Let their body devote its resources to recovery.

🐟 Rosita Cod Liver Oil: Rosita affiliate link is in my bio if you’d like to try it! Gels for convenience and liquid for littles.

And of course chiropractic care! I didn't need to add this one because I know y'all are already getting consistent chiropractic care! 😉

Save this one for the next time someone wakes up with the sniffles. 🤍

Fertility maxxing 🌱

Not obsessing over every supplement.
Not trying to control every variable.
Not turning your body into another full-time project.

It’s building a body with the resources, resilience, and capacity needed to support reproduction.

Quality sleep. Morning light. Nutrient-dense food. Enough protein and quality fats. Minerals. Movement. Muscle. Metabolic flexibility. Time outside. Connection. Purpose. Prayer. Play. A nervous system that has opportunities to recover.

And perhaps one of the hardest pieces:

Surrender.

You can steward the inputs. You can nourish your body, learn its rhythms, support its physiology, and create a beautiful foundation for health.

But you cannot control the outcome.

Do what is yours to do, then release what isn’t. 🤍

Because preparing for pregnancy isn’t just about making a baby. It’s about building health in both mom and dad that can carry into pregnancy, parenthood, and the generations that follow.

Your gut doesn’t just talk to your brain, it also talks to your hormones.

Something most of us were never taught was how your gut bacteria works. It doesn’t just metabolize food, it also shapes how well your hormones function.

Gut bacteria impacts:
Estrogens — supports growth, fertility, and strength — estrobolome (a specific type of bacteria), helps metabolize and clear excess estrogen from your body. When out of balance estrogen can get reabsorbed instead of cleared, which can cause irregular cycles, PMS symptoms, or challenges with fertility.

Cortisol — supports alertness, energy, and your body's ability to respond to stress — your gut helps regulate cortisol through signals sent along the vagus nerve. When out of balance, cortisol can stay elevated, which then makes digestion harder, not easier creating a loop where calming the nervous system is part of calming the gut.

Insulin — supports steady energy and blood sugar balance — well-supported gut microbiome helps your body regulate insulin efficiently. When out of balance, insulin regulation becomes harder, which can affect energy, cravings, and cycle regularity.

Serotonin — supports mood, calm, and restful sleep — roughly 90% of it is produced in the gut, not the brain. When gut health is out of balance, serotonin production can be affected too, which is part of why a well-supported gut often means a steadier mood, not just steadier digestion.

This is why we don’t look at hormone health in isolation. Your gut, your nervous system, and your hormones are one connected system — not three separate problems to solve.

Psalm 139:13 — “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.”

For the couples trying to conceive, or the mama in a season of postpartum recovery, or just wanting your body to feel less like a mystery: supporting your gut is supporting your hormones is supporting your whole self.
