🌸 Meet the 7 Dwarfs of Perimenopause & Menopause! 🌸

Some days you’re running the show. Other days you’re wondering why you walked into the kitchen… while sweating… and feeling personally offended by the sound of someone chewing. 😂

Allow me to introduce the crew:

🔥 Sweaty — Your own personal tropical vacation. Usually at 3 AM. No beach included.

🥱 Sleepy — Exhausted all afternoon. Wide awake the minute your head hits the pillow.

🧠 Forgetful — Walks into a room with purpose. Leaves with a snack because the purpose is gone.

😤 Grumpy — Loves her family dearly. Would also appreciate everyone being quiet and standing farther away.

😭 Weepy — Cries over a commercial, an old photograph, or because Grumpy hurt someone’s feelings.

🌵 Dry — Skin, eyes, and intimate tissues may need extra attention. Suddenly “a little friction” isn’t so little.

🙅‍♀️ Not Tonight — Between poor sleep, dryness, and everything else, romance sometimes slides down the priority list.

Sound familiar? You’re in good company!

Your hormones do much more than manage your period:

🌷 Estrogen supports bones, vaginal and urinary tissues, and your menstrual cycle.
🌷 Progesterone helps regulate the uterine lining and supports pregnancy.
🌷 Testosterone contributes to sexual desire, muscle, and bone health—women need it, too!

During perimenopause, hormone levels can fluctuate. After menopause, estrogen and progesterone remain much lower. These changes can bring hot flashes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, and uncomfortable intimacy.

And while we can laugh about the dwarfs, you don’t have to quietly put up with symptoms that affect your life. Not every symptom is hormonal, and good care starts with understanding the whole picture.

🌱 THE WELLNESS SNOWBALL
Progress over perfection… one change at a time.

Have you ever thought about applying Dave Ramsey’s debt snowball approach to your health?

With the debt snowball, you start with a smaller debt. Paying it off gives you a win—and motivation to keep going.

I believe we can take that same approach with our health. Start with something manageable. Build confidence. Keep going.

We often think getting healthier means changing EVERYTHING on Monday. Then life happens, we get overwhelmed, and we feel like we failed.

What if we chose just ONE small change each week and built from there?

👟 Walk a little more than you usually do. Even five extra minutes is a place to start.

🌙 Start going to bed at the same time each night.

🥡 Eat fast food one less time this week. Have an easy meal ready at home.

🫙 Replace a plastic food container or two with glass, starting with the ones you use to heat food.

💧 Replace one sugary drink a day with water.

🍳 Add a source of protein to your breakfast.

🥦 Add a vegetable to one meal each day.

🏋️ Add a few sit-to-stands, wall push-ups, or light resistance exercises to your routine.

📱 Put your phone down 15 minutes before bedtime.

☀️ Step outside for a few minutes of morning light.

🍽️ Sit down to eat and slow down enough to enjoy your food.

🙏 Set aside five quiet minutes for prayer, reflection, or simply taking a breath.

You don’t have to do all of these. Pick ONE that fits your life.

Keep practicing it. When it begins to feel manageable, add another. If a habit needs more than a week, give it more than a week.

Imagine where you could be in six months—not because you followed a perfect plan, but because you kept taking small steps.

Those steps can add up to more movement, better routines, more meals at home, and greater confidence in your ability to care for yourself.

And when you have a difficult day? Pick back up with the next choice. Your progress still counts.

At Anselm Integrative Wellness, this is what I mean by progress over perfection. I’m reminding myself of this right along with you. ❤️

What is ONE small change you could start this week?

📱 We may be sitting still while scrolling—but our eyes and brain are busy.

This is personal for me. I’ve been doing better, but after a three-hour round-trip drive and 8½ hours at a seminar watching PowerPoint, I ended the day with neck pain, eye discomfort, and dizziness.

There were other triggers that day, too. I can’t blame screens for everything, but it has made me think more about how screen time—and phone scrolling—may add to my symptom load.

How can scrolling affect our nervous system?

👀 Visual stimulation: Moving images and rapidly changing content can provoke symptoms in people sensitive to visual motion, including those with vestibular migraine.

📱 Eye and neck strain: Prolonged close-up focus, less blinking, and looking down at a phone can contribute to dry eyes, headaches, and neck tension.

🌙 Sleep disruption: Bright screens at night can interfere with our body’s sleep signals. Poor sleep can make it harder to manage symptoms the next day.

For someone like me, already dealing with histamine-related symptoms and migraine-type sensitivity, several triggers together can feel overwhelming. That doesn’t prove scrolling causes a histamine or MCAS flare, but it’s a reasonable factor to pay attention to.

🌿 A few small changes to try:

• Every 20 minutes, look about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
• Raise your phone to reduce prolonged neck bending.
• Pause scrolling or videos when symptoms begin.
• Turn off unnecessary notifications.
• Give yourself some screen-free time before bed.

I’m taking this as a reminder to listen to my own body—and practice what I teach.

Sometimes progress starts with putting the phone down. 💚

A customer came to the farm to see her beef before he goes to the butcher tomorrow.

She bought a whole beef that will feed her family for the next year. And before he left our farm, she wanted to see him for herself, bless him, and thank God for the nourishment he will provide her family.

Somewhere along the way, we became incredibly disconnected from our food.

Meat became a package. Milk became a jug. Eggs became a carton.

And when we stopped seeing the land, the animals and the farmers behind our food, we stopped asking questions too.

Where did this come from?
How was it raised?
What kind of life did it have?
What am I supporting with my dollars?

She didn’t have to come today.

She wanted to know.

And I think there’s something really powerful about that.

Gratitude for the animal. Respect for the life that will nourish her family. And a desire to actually see what she’s choosing to support.

I want more of that.

More families standing in pastures. More kids knowing farmers. More people asking questions and seeing the answers with their own eyes.

Because every dollar we spend on food supports a way of farming, a way of raising animals and a way of caring for the land.

This is the community I never knew I would get to build, and I love it so much.

People who want more than food.

They want connection.
They want transparency.
They want to know.

Every meal comes from somewhere.

Every dollar supports something.

Maybe it’s time we started caring deeply about both.

Call or text 217-565-2870 to reserve your spot for this very informative class on histamine intolerance... Can't figure out why you never feel good?… this could be it! Class details below:

🌿 Histamine Intolerance & MCAS: Connecting the Dots

Flushing, itching, headaches, digestive problems… could histamine be part of the picture?

Histamine is a natural chemical that helps with digestion and your body’s defenses. But too much can cause uncomfortable symptoms.

🔹 Histamine intolerance: When your body has trouble breaking down histamine—especially from food—it may build up and cause allergy-like symptoms.

🔹 MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome): Mast cells are part of your immune system. In MCAS, they repeatedly release too much histamine and other chemicals, causing reactions in several parts of the body.

Possible signs and symptoms include:

• Flushing, itching, hives, or swelling
• Headaches or migraines
• Stuffy or runny nose
• Abdominal cramps, nausea, or diarrhea
• Racing heart, dizziness, or feeling faint
• Wheezing or shortness of breath

What about chronic illnesses?
Symptoms can overlap with migraines, IBS, asthma, allergies, and chronic hives. POTS and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome are also discussed alongside MCAS, but those connections are still being studied. Having one of these conditions does not automatically mean you have MCAS.

Join us to learn about the differences, possible triggers, evaluation, and ways to manage symptoms!
