Inner child work is an important component to building a strong foundation for your present and future self!

Often times our younger self is stuck in past trauma, wounds and negative belief patterns. This shows up in your life in so many ways: unhealthy relationships/boundaries, negative habitual behaviors or addictions, poor sleep, unhealthy eating habits, anxiety and fear just to name a few!

Healing your inner child is a critical step in your personal growth and overall wellbeing. When you effectively unburden your inner child of old trauma, emotional residue and negative beliefs you free them up to provide a new and amazing presence in your life.

Remember when you were little? The energy, creativity, playfulness you expressed. Healing your inner child can allow these qualities to return to your life.

Happy Valentine’s Day! This wish goes out to everyone. Whether you are single, happily attached, unhappily attached, spending the day with friends, family, or pets: Happy Valentine’s Day.

This is a day to celebrate love and love comes in many forms, not just romantic. Love is not just a feeling. It is an ability and a choice. You have the ability to love despite loss, despite heartbreak or betrayal.

You can choose to love others even when they act unlovable. You can choose to love yourself more and move away from unhealthy relationships. You can choose to live authentically so that when love walks into your life that love is truly for YOU and not some fake version of yourself.

Have you ever noticed a shift in your emotional state after deep tissue massage, acupuncture, running or deep stretching? Runners talk about the “high” they experience. Yoga brings calm and peace to our minds and bodies.
How do you feel after dancing, journaling, painting, planting, singing or creating?

I have personally experienced profound emotional catharsis when engaging in these activities.

The cells of our bodies hold onto memory, emotion and trauma. We live in a rushed, superficial society that does not allow us to slow down and FEEL. The result is trapped emotional residue in our bodies. Over time, this manifests as unhealthy relationships, addictions and disease.
Think of our emotions as energy. Energy that needs to be expressed, felt and released.
I’m sure you have heard the expression, “feel it to heal it.”
We need to acknowledge our emotions, feel them and allow them to flow through us.
Pain is not a place to stay, allow it to flow through you. Allow it to flow through movement, creation, art.
Use the energy of the emotion to create something. Accomplished artists often struggle with profound pain and use it as a muse. To create beauty in this world to share with others. Transmuting their emotional suffering into something magnificent. Moving their pain from their bodies into something else.

The New Year conjures up ideas of drastic changes in behaviors, becoming the “New Me.” This often leads to overwhelming aspirations that end in failure. We are left feeling defeated. We feel set up from the start.

I have found myself in this familiar pattern many times. My list of resolutions has included: lose ten pounds, exercise daily, read more, spend more time with family and friends, make more money and on and on.

What about focusing on smaller shifts? Shifts in thoughts and feelings that lead to new behaviors and outcomes.

Making a commitment to focus on the lessons each experience brings. (hint: positive experiences usually do not teach us much).

Committing to improving our relationships with loved ones, being more compassionate, listening more and talking less.
Improving our physical health: drinking more water, eating more healthy whole foods, moving your body.
Getting in touch with your feelings, especially the uncomfortable ones!

Moving out of our comfort zone. Growth occurs when we step out of the familiar territory, take risks, and face our fears!

Growth happens in these small shifts and by the end of the year you will notice big results!

It becomes who you are, not just what you do!

We tend to have very complicated relationships with our families. We love our family dearly, would do almost anything for them, but they drive us “crazy!” We find ourselves resorting to childlike behaviors at family gatherings: yelling, fighting, experiencing petty jealousy, making hurtful remarks. Nothing demonstrates this as poignantly as holiday festivities!

Why is it that family always seems to be able to press your buttons?!
BECAUSE they INSTALLED them!!

Our subconscious minds operate under the beliefs we picked up prior to the age of seven and unless you have done some work to change those outdated, erroneous beliefs they are still running the show.

These beliefs could include: I’m not lovable unless I’m thin and pretty, I need to have a successful career and children before the age of 30 or I’m a failure, If my parents don’t love me, nobody ever will.

So, when your parents say things like: when are you going to make me a grandparent you feel attacked, triggered, unlovable, a failure. Right there in the middle of a holiday dinner in front of everyone.

So, HOW can you feel better, more confident, happier during these inevitable family gatherings?
Think about how you want to be feeling, imagine the event going smoothly, peacefully, perhaps even enjoyably!
Envision it, imagine it, pretend you can see it (it’s ok if you don’t visualize well, just imagine it).
Think about those situations that really trigger you, what is the underlying belief? Examine it, does it really hold weight, is it true, would it stand up in a court of law?? Probably not, what is true about yourself? Begin to notice what your body feels like when you think about these old beliefs. Notice the difference as you begin to rule them out and replace them with more truthful and empowering beliefs!
Your beliefs are yours to change. You have the power to choose!
Finally set boundaries, you do not have to stay all day, you do not have to answer uncomfortable questions and you do not have to put up with any abuse!

Our thoughts are directly related to the quality of our lives. When something happens in your life, good or bad, stop and notice your thoughts.
When I find myself in situations where I am not feeling happy or fulfilled, I stop and notice my thoughts.
Inevitably I notice my thoughts are negative. I am feeling sorry for myself, blaming someone or something outside of me. Which of course, I have no control over.
In the end we only have control of ourselves. This is a simple concept but not easy to implement. In order to change our lives, our outcomes, our situations or experience we must start with our thoughts.

Ever find yourself wanting to be successful but also believing it’s too difficult, requires too much work, will never happen?

Everyday you get the opportunity to create your life! You get to choose. When you wake up in the morning what is the first thing you do?

Do you automatically look at social media, emails or news?

Do you take a few minutes to appreciate your morning? Do you stretch, breathe deeply, meditate or journal?

Begin to develop a habit of cultivating gratitude and mindfulness in your life. It can be as simple as appreciating how your body feels as you breathe deeply and stretch, smell the fresh hot coffee, listen to the birds outside, pet your dog or cat, and take a few moments to hug your loved ones.

It is worth the effort exponentially to wake up 15 minutes earlier each day and cultivate an attitude of appreciation. It will set the stage for starting your day on a positive note.

The events and circumstances in your life reflect what is going on inside of yourself. Beginning your day rushed and unhappy, sets the theme for your day. Whenever I find myself stuck in a rut and things aren’t working out, I stop and pay attention to the quality of my thoughts.

Your outer world reflects your inner world. If you notice that people have seemed rushed or rude lately, stop and notice what you have been focusing on? Running into a lot of complainers, people who do not want to put in the work,?

Stop and notice your thoughts! Is your partner getting on your nerves? Notice what you are thinking and feeling. You are a mirror and what is going on inside of you is reflected back to you.

My clients teach me so much! Whenever I start to notice a trend, it reminds me to stop and pay attention to my thoughts and feelings. Nourish your mind the same way you nourish your body, and you will reap the same in your life. Living with gratitude will cultivate and attract more circumstances and events to be grateful for!

Hypnotherapy works to amplify change in your life. I help individuals unlock the power of their own subconscious mind in order to gain insight, clarity and freedom. Hypnotherapy empowers you to think, feel and behave differently!

This does not mean that you will not have any problems or obstacles in your life. We all must face challenges in our daily lives. You will however have the tools, the skills and the ability to overcome obstacles. You will learn how to thrive not just survive!
Challenges in life help us learn and grow. If there is no challenge, how can you expect to grow?

I recently heard a story about the trees growing in the biosphere in Tucson. The forest within the biosphere is an artificial environment. The trees in that environment grew differently than trees in the wild. Many of them grew sideways instead of growing up tall. Upon examination it was found that the integrity of the bark was weak.

Think about all the obstacles and challenges trees must endure in the wild: wind, storms, drought, insects just to name a few. These obstacles challenge the tree and make it stronger!

Think about something you really enjoy doing, something you’re good at!

Perhaps it’s arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, public speaking or physical fitness. Maybe your gift is conflict resolution, problem solving, community or social events.

Whatever it is for you, take a moment and think about engaging in this area.

Notice your thoughts, become aware of how it makes you feel and notice any sensations in your body.

Do you think about your strengths, your talents and your contribution?

Do you notice feelings of confidence, courage, peace or fulfillment?
Do you feel relaxed in your body? Pay attention to your breathing, heart rate, muscle tension, posture and facial expression.

Now, the next time you need to perform a task you do not enjoy, feel anxious or fearful about: a presentation at work, a large social event, going on a first date, remember your strengths and abilities.

Get in touch with the feeling state of what you excel at, what you truly enjoy.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself in your element, get in touch with the feeling state, hold onto it.
Engage that part of your personality and notice the difference it makes!
You wear many hats in life, utilize your strengths!

What would you be doing if fear were not an issue?
Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of pain.
What about fear of success?
What could you accomplish if you changed the way you thought about fear?
Fear is a natural response to potential danger. It is actually a gift that helps us survive.
The problem occurs when we feel stuck in a state of fear that is not survival based.
The state of our survival is not threatened on a daily basis, but we feel the fear just the same.
What if we could harness the power of this strong emotion?
Learning to work with it, not against it.
Think about using that emotional energy to act, to take a chance, to fully enjoy your life!
The physiological sensations of fear are similar to excitement or anticipation.
Begin to shift your thoughts and feelings around fear and notice the change.
Take advantage of the opportunities that lie on the other side of fear!

What is your intention, your goal, what do you want to achieve?
Many people only have a vague idea of this.
They say they want to be happy, feel more peaceful, or they want a new job, make a million dollars or find the love of their life!

People tend to focus on their “lack of “when they think about their goal or intention.
For example, someone who is looking for love may be too focused on the fact that they are currently single. Maybe they just got out of a difficult relationship and cannot move beyond it.

Someone looking for a new job may be so focused on how much they dislike their current job; they aren’t able to focus on new opportunities in their life.

What we focus on we tend to find.
The part of our brains called Reticular Activating System (RAS), automates this process for us. It looks for what it thinks we want. It pays attention to and points out that which we have been focused on!
For example, you may have noticed after buying a new car that you saw that same car on the freeway all over.
Everyone did not go out and buy the same new car on the same day. You’re just noticing it now because you're focused on it. Your RAS is doing its job!

This does not mean ignore your current reality. If you are angry or sad. Go ahead and express that emotion. Do what is necessary to work through that emotion but do not dwell there.

When you are ready, get clear on your goal or intention. Focus on it from a place of gratitude or appreciation for the state you are currently in.

We all know life is challenging but we can always find something positive to focus on!

Even if you don’t like your current job, at least you have one.
If you just got out of a bad relationship, think about the lessons you learned from it.

Then when you think about and really focus on your goal , your intention, what else will you notice?

How will you know you have achieved it? What will you be doing and experiencing differently?

Finally, begin to feel the emotions of your intention realized!
How wonderful will you be feeling once you have achieved it?

Get in touch with that feeling state, what physical changes do you notice in your body, the expression on your face, your posture and stance!

We do this all the time when we think about what we don’t want.
It takes just as much energy to shift the focus!

What comes to mind when you think about faith or belief in a higher power?
Is it something that is meaningful and paramount in your life, or is it vague and undefined?
Do you simply reject the idea completely or are you unsure?

People who are open to something greater than themselves seem to be much more resilient and resourceful than those who do not embrace this belief.

This can be faith in Spirit, God, Source, The Universe, Energy, the idea of our Highest Self, Mother Earth, the existence of our soul after death.

I would never tell someone WHAT to believe but I encourage you to believe in something!
This will have a tremendous impact on your ability to thrive in this life!

So many are feeling lost in their lives. They feel overwhelmed, they do not believe their lives have meaning and purpose. They feel alone and afraid.

I have facilitated sessions to help individuals get in touch with their beliefs, their meaning and purpose. Improving their intuition, listening to their inner self, their higher power and quieting the inner chatter.

Trusting that things usually happen for a reason, accepting the lessons of life in order to move forward, letting go of the pain.

Where do you find inspiration in your life?
Most of us feel as though we do not have enough time.
Time for work, family, fun, time for ourselves. We become overwhelmed and focus on things that are not really meaningful. We are just surviving, not thriving!

Stop and take a look at what you are paying attention to? Are you always watching news, scrolling social media, watching violent shows?

Are you nurturing and fulfilling your life by reading, studying, spending time with people who are positive, looking to grow and achieve more?

I was speaking with a colleague the other day and the topic of retirement came up.

Retired people who have hobbies, spend time with family/friends and lead fulfilled lives, live much longer than retirees who sit around watching TV all day.

Think about it we are always looking to work less but if we are not doing anything fulfilling with our time, where is our meaning and purpose??

What are you passionate about, what excites you? Go out and be around like minded people.

What are your goals? Who do you know that has achieved them? Go spend time with them, pick their brains, model their behaviors.

If it is not someone you know personally, you can still learn about them and model their behaviors by reading about them or watching them.

The time is now to up-level. What are you waiting for??

Self-love
The relationship you develop with yourself is the basis for all of your relationships.
How do you treat yourself? What do you say to yourself when you’re having a good day, a bad day?
Do you accept compliments and praise with appreciation or do you discount your abilities, talents, gifts?
Do you sabotage yourself, taking on so much you could not possibly succeed?
Taking responsibility for others’ feelings and behaviors, knowing they have absolutely nothing to do with you!
Do you beat yourself up over and over again for past mistakes?

Stop and ask yourself, are these thoughts and behaviors helping me achieve my goals?
Is this helping me be the best version of myself, the person I was born to be?
Helping me to be a better person, friend, professional?
Stop and forgive yourself for not knowing, what you could not have possibly known at the time your mistakes were made.
Remind yourself of all the wisdom, knowledge and experience you have gained as a result of your life lessons. Would you trade that for anything?
None of us want to relive the difficult times in our lives but would you give up the knowledge, the lessons?
Begin to develop the belief that everything is working out in your best interest to help you learn and grow! When you can, have a little fun along the way!

Do you have meaning and purpose?
Are you generally happy and positive?
I often hear people say “I’ll be happy when…”
I finish school.
Get a promotion.
Make more money.
Move out of state.
Find a new love.
Retire.
The list goes on and on, you fill in the blank.
Start being happy and living your passion where you are right NOW! When you begin to appreciate where you are right now, you open the door for opportunities in your life!
We are always learning and growing in our lives. How would you feel if you reached the pinnacle at age 30? You’ve learned and accomplished everything there is to learn and accomplish. The rest of your life would feel pretty unfulfilling.
Would you trade anything for all the wisdom and knowledge you have gained over the last 10 years??
You may not want to relive it, but I bet you wouldn’t trade the lessons and the personal growth!
What do you enjoy doing? What do people come to you for? Sometimes our family and friends know our talents better than we do.

Sleep restores us, but it’s not just about waking up and feeling good in the morning. Adults need at least 7 hours of sleep every 24 hours to function optimally. 😴
Poor sleep affects our lives in many ways. Lack of sleep contributes to problems with memory, thinking and concentration, mood instability, decreased immunity, decreased s*x drive, weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes and poor balance and coordination just to name a few.
Our sleep cycles consist of distinct stages including REM and deep sleep. REM sleep is important for memory and learning. During phases of deep sleep our cerebral spinal fluid increases, and our brains are actually detoxifying.
In 2017 the CDC estimated 70 million Americans have chronic sleep problems. I think it’s safe to say these numbers have probably increased over the last few years.
We were born able to sleep perfectly anytime, anywhere. Ever look at a baby sleeping, not a care in the world.
Factors that disrupt sleep include stress, worry/racing thoughts, health problems, pain, trauma.

Can you relate to any of these statements?
I always choose the wrong partner.
I will never find love.
I’m tired of online dating.
Every time I open my heart, it gets broken.
All the good men/ women are taken.
I just can’t seem to make a connection with a love interest.

After 15 years of experience working with people to overcome emotional difficulties and reach their full potential; I have learned that the root of so many issues is lack of self-love.

How do you cope with obstacles and adversity in your life?

We all have to face obstacles in our lives whether it be personal or professional.

The next time you find yourself in this situation stop and notice your thoughts, your inner dialogue. What do you tell yourself about the situation?

Do you tell yourself it’s impossible?
Do you blame yourself?
Do you tell yourself you deserve to suffer?
OR
Do you tell yourself you are capable of overcoming, do you focus on what can be learned or gained, and how you can grow?

Happy New Year!

As we release 2022, the good and the bad, we are creating space for everything that 2023 has to offer.
When you think about all the potential the New Year brings with it, what will you focus on?

How do you want to see yourself and your life? Will this be a year for growth, relationships, success, freedom, knowledge, health?

I invite you to really focus on what you want to achieve this year. Not just another resolution but a new mindset that will enable you to achieve it!

Really focus on it, what will you be seeing, hearing, feeling and experiencing once you have achieved your goal?
Do you really believe you can make this a reality in your life? What is standing in your way?
Who do you need to help you with this? Imagine you have access to their resources.
Fill in all the details in your mind’s eye. Make it colorful, bright and larger than life. Get in touch with the feeling state of achieving this in your life!

Ever notice how difficult it can be to shift your state or focus when you are feeling anxious or down?
When we experience thoughts such as “I’m not good enough”
"I’ll never be able to make enough money" or "no one loves me" we begin to feel anxious, hopeless, or overwhelmed.

Notice the physiological response too! Does your breathing shift? Do you feel butterflies in your stomach or tightness in your neck and shoulders?
All of this in turn causes you to think more of the same negative thoughts.

One of the most effective ways to shift or interrupt this pattern is working with your physical body.
It is very difficult to think your way out of a negative mood. You can use the physiology of your body to shift. There are many ways to do this.
Stand up and shake your body vigorously
Enjoy a deep belly laugh
Engage in physical exercise
Utilize tapping or emotional freedom technique

Once you make this shift, changing your internal dialogue is much easier!

When you shift into a resourceful state you are more effective in all areas of your life!

Think about how you function when you are feeling energized and happy versus feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
