Disclaimer: the word fat is a descriptor, not a value judgement as I use it here.
Some (probably many) people believe that fat people are fat by choice. That if they just ate less, exercised more, put down the ice cream and had some self-respect that they would be thinner. The real truth is-that is highly unlikely. It’s not that simple. That’s not how it works.
Some fat people, if they feel badly enough about themselves, and “admit” their “guilt”, believe that should look like what someone else wants them to look like are more accepted-they are perceived as “good”.
Others, who have the audacity to be kind to themselves, to accept and love themselves as they are, to demand fair treatment and respect…well those are the bad fatties.
How much do you buy into these “avatars”-WHICH one do you consider better, more worthy of your acceptance?
Our attitudes may be much more subtle than these words, but pay attention to your reactions.
Are you telling yourself your anger towards bad fatties is for their own good? Is that really true? How does that work?
Some thoughts to ponder…with an end goal of greater awareness and more compassion.
