An estimated 8 to 12 million Americans have peripheral artery disease (PAD), and many don’t know it.

One of the most common symptoms is claudication, a pain or cramping that occurs during walking or exercise but goes away with rest. This can be a sign that your muscles aren’t getting enough oxygen-rich blood.

If you experience pain while walking, talk with your doctor about your symptoms. Vascular testing or a referral to a vascular specialist may be recommended.
