Staying Active With Chronic Pain

🍁 Fall is a great time to get outside—but chronic pain can make even simple activities feel like a challenge.

Whether it's walking, hiking, playing with your grandchildren, or simply enjoying a day outdoors, the goal of pain management isn't just to reduce a number on a pain scale.

It's about helping you get back to living your life.

If pain is limiting your ability to do the things you enjoy, talk with a pain specialist about your options.

Decrease pain. Maximize function. Live fully.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month, we recognize the patients, survivors, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals affected by breast cancer.

For some survivors, the journey doesn't end when treatment does. Persistent pain, nerve pain, and other symptoms can sometimes continue long after cancer treatment has finished.

If you're experiencing ongoing pain after cancer treatment, you're not alone—and there may be options to help.

This month, let's raise awareness, encourage screening, support one another, and continue working toward better quality of life for those affected by cancer.

💗 Early detection. Support. Hope.

When Is It Time to See a Pain Specialist?

If pain has become a regular part of your life, it may be time to look beyond temporary solutions.

Consider talking with a pain specialist if:

✔️ Your pain has lasted for months
✔️ Medications aren't providing enough relief
✔️ Physical therapy hasn't gotten you where you want to be
✔️ You've had surgery but continue to experience pain
✔️ Nerve pain is affecting your sleep or daily activities
✔️ Pain is keeping you from doing the things you enjoy

A pain specialist can help identify the source of your pain and discuss treatment options based on your individual situation.

There isn't one solution that works for everyone—but understanding your options is an important first step.

If chronic pain is interfering with your life, don't be afraid to ask, “What else can we try?”

Had back surgery—but you’re still in pain?

You’re not alone.

Some patients continue to experience persistent back or leg pain even after surgery. This can be frustrating, especially when you were hoping surgery would finally put an end to your pain.

Ongoing pain can have many possible causes, and finding the right approach starts with understanding why the pain is continuing.

If you’ve tried multiple treatments and are still struggling with chronic pain, it may be worth having a conversation with a pain specialist about your options.

Just because you’re still hurting doesn’t mean you’ve run out of options.

There may be other approaches worth exploring to help you manage your pain and get back to the activities you enjoy.

Did you know? Diabetes can cause more than changes in blood sugar; it can also cause painful nerve damage.

Painful diabetic neuropathy can feel like:
• Burning or tingling
• Pins and needles
• Electric or shooting pain
• Numbness
• Extreme sensitivity to touch
• Pain in the feet or legs

For some people, these symptoms can make walking, sleeping, exercising, or simply enjoying everyday life difficult.

When conventional treatments aren't providing enough relief, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) may be an option worth discussing.

If diabetic nerve pain is interfering with your daily life, don't assume you just have to live with it. Contact the office today (231) 642-2202

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is one treatment option that may help certain patients manage chronic pain and improve their ability to get back to the activities they enjoy.
You don’t have to simply “learn to live with it.”

If chronic pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, contact our office today! (231) 642-2202

💡 Did You Know?

Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is a treatment option for certain types of chronic pain when conservative therapies haven't provided enough relief.

A spinal cord stimulator is a small device that delivers mild electrical signals to the spinal cord to help interrupt pain signals before they reach the brain.

SCS may be an option for people living with:
✔ Chronic back or leg pain
✔ Pain after back surgery
✔ Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN)
✔ Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
✔ Certain types of nerve pain

One of the unique benefits of spinal cord stimulation is that most patients can complete a temporary trial before deciding whether to move forward with permanent implantation. This allows you and your physician to see if it provides meaningful pain relief before making a long-term commitment.

Every patient is different, and spinal cord stimulation isn't the right choice for everyone. That's why a thorough evaluation is the first step in determining the best treatment plan for your specific condition.
