You don’t need a new workout plan. You might just need a walk after dinner.

When you eat, your blood sugar rises. That’s normal. But how high it goes and how quickly your body brings it back down makes a real difference in how you feel afterward — and how your metabolism functions over time.

A 10-minute walk right after a meal helps your body use that food more efficiently. Your muscles absorb more of the sugar from your meal while you’re moving, which means your body doesn’t have to work as hard to bring your levels back down.

Less of that post-meal crash. Less bloating. More steady energy through the evening.

And it doesn’t have to be a power walk. A slow stroll around the block. A loop through the neighborhood with your dog. Pacing on a phone call. Anything that keeps you upright and moving for about ten minutes.

The best part is how stackable this is. One walk after dinner tonight is simple. One walk after dinner every night is a habit that compounds over weeks and months.

If you’re already working on your nutrition, your weight, or your energy levels, this is one of the easiest things you can add that makes everything else work a little better. But habits like this work best when your metabolism has the right foundation underneath them.

The gut and thyroid are connected, but the internet has turned that relationship into a much cleaner story than the research supports. Let us put the nuance back.⏮️

Autoimmune thyroid disease is associated with differences in gut microbiome composition.

Researchers are studying:
💥intestinal barrier function
💥immune tolerance
💥microbial metabolites
💥inflammation

Most human evidence is still associative, so a microbiome result cannot prove what caused Hashimoto's or promise that a probiotic will reverse it.

The gut can affect thyroid care in more immediate ways too.
✔ Celiac disease and atrophic gastritis can occur alongside autoimmune thyroid disease and may affect nutrient or medication absorption.

✔ Gastrointestinal conditions, supplements, food, coffee, and some medications can change levothyroxine absorption.

✔ Constipation can be a symptom of hypothyroidism, which means the relationship can run in both directions.

When I see thyroid symptoms with persistent bloating, diarrhea, constipation, iron deficiency, reflux medication use, or an unexpectedly high medication requirement, I ask more questions about the gut.

Bring the medication schedule, bowel pattern, celiac risk, nutrient data, and symptoms into the same room so that we can have the full picture when discussing your case.

Your annual bloodwork probably includes fasting glucose and A1c. And if those numbers come back in range, you’re told your metabolism is fine.

But glucose is one of the last markers to move. It stays in range while your body compensates behind the scenes, producing more and more insulin to keep blood sugar steady. By the time glucose rises, the dysfunction has been developing for years.

Fasting insulin tells a different story. It reveals how hard your body is working to maintain that “normal” glucose reading. And it can flag insulin resistance at its earliest, most reversible stage, long before glucose or A1c ever shifts.

The problem is, most standard metabolic panels don’t include it. So patients walk away with a clean report while the earliest signs of dysfunction go undetected.

This matters because insulin resistance doesn’t just lead to diabetes. It drives weight gain, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, cardiovascular risk, and fatigue. And the earlier it’s identified, the more options you have to reverse it through nutrition, movement, and targeted support.

If your bloodwork has only ever included glucose and A1c, you may be missing the most informative marker on the panel.

When someone has:
🚩fatigue
🚩cold intolerance
🚩hair changes
🚩constipation
🚩brain fog

…I want more than the sentence "everything was normal." I want the actual results.✅

Five testing areas I often consider, based on the history:

🧪TSH with Free T4
TSH is the first-line screen for primary thyroid dysfunction. Free T4 adds important context, especially when the pattern is unusual or pituitary disease is a concern.

🧪Thyroid antibodies
TPO antibodies, and sometimes thyroglobulin antibodies, can support a diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease when clinically indicated.

🧪CBC and iron studies
Anemia and iron deficiency can closely mimic thyroid symptoms. Ferritin is more useful when read with the CBC and transferrin saturation.

🧪B12, folate, or vitamin D
I order these selectively when diet, medications, gastrointestinal history, neurologic symptoms, or other clues raise the question.

🧪Metabolic and hormonal testing
Glucose markers, pregnancy testing, prolactin, or evaluation for perimenopause may belong in the workup depending on the symptom pattern.

Creatine has been studied for decades. In men. In athletes. In performance contexts.

Women were largely left out of that research until recently. And because of that, most women associate creatine with bulking, water retention, and gym culture — not with brain health, bone density, or metabolic resilience.

But the evidence is catching up. A 2025 randomized controlled trial in menopausal women found that creatine supplementation improved cognitive reaction time by 6.6%, increased brain creatine levels by 16.4%, and improved lipid profiles. Other research supports its role in preserving lean muscle mass, supporting bone mineral density, and stabilizing mood.

3 to 5 grams daily. Mixed into water or a smoothie. No loading phase required.

The most common concern is bloating or looking “bulky.” Neither happens at this dose. Creatine supports energy production at the cellular level — it helps your muscles, your brain, and your bones access the fuel they need, especially as estrogen declines and your metabolism starts working against you instead of for you.

Creatine is one piece. But if your metabolism isn’t optimized underneath it, you won’t get the full benefit. Want to understand what’s actually driving your energy, fat storage, and hormonal shifts — and what to do about it?

A normal TSH can be reassuring while the post-unloading-the-dishwasher-nap still needs an explanation.

When thyroid-like symptoms keep hanging around, I look for common contributors that can overlap, amplify one another, or affect treatment.

🦋Sleep and stress load
Short sleep, sleep apnea, circadian disruption, and sustained stress can affect energy, appetite, cognition, and how the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis behaves.

🦋Iron and nutrient status
Iron deficiency can cause fatigue, hair loss, cold intolerance, exercise intolerance, and brain fog. B12 and other deficiencies can add their own version of the same story.

🦋Autoimmune context
Hashimoto's is a common cause of hypothyroidism. Thyroid antibodies may be appropriate when the history, examination, ultrasound, or lab pattern raises suspicion.

🦋Medication and absorption
Coffee, iron, calcium, stomach conditions, and some medications can interfere with levothyroxine absorption.

🦋Metabolic and hormonal factors
Perimenopause, insulin resistance, heavy menstrual bleeding, depression, chronic illness, and under-fueling can all contribute to the cluster.

The useful target is the set of common pieces that can explain Tuesday afternoon, the shower drain, the cold office, and the jeans that feel different by lunch.

GLP-1 medications are effective. The weight comes off. But the number on the scale doesn’t tell you what you’re losing.

Research consistently shows that a significant portion of weight lost on GLP-1 therapy comes from lean body mass — muscle your body needs to maintain metabolism, strength, and long-term results.

Muscle isn’t just about how you look. It’s your metabolic engine. It regulates blood sugar. It protects your joints and bones. It determines whether the weight stays off once the medication changes or stops.

The two most modifiable factors in preserving muscle during GLP-1 therapy are protein intake and resistance training. But before you can optimize, you need to know where you’re starting from.

And most standard GLP-1 panels aren’t showing you that picture.

There are 6 specific labs that will. Most people on a GLP-1 have never had them ordered.

Morning me made plans.

Evening me was apparently not consulted. 😂

When your energy already feels limited, even a pretty normal day can use up everything you had in the tank.

Anyone else mentally checking their battery percentage before agreeing to plans? 🔋

What does a breast health conversation look like when it’s done through a full optimization lens? 🩷

Here’s what we look at:

→ 🔬 Your hormone status. Where are your estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone right now? Are you in early perimenopause, late perimenopause, or postmenopausal? This shapes every recommendation that follows.

→ 🩸 Your metabolic markers. Fasting insulin, fasting glucose, inflammatory markers like hs-CRP, and vitamin D. They give a picture of your metabolic health and where the modifiable risks live.

→ ⚖️ Your body composition. How your weight is distributed can matter as much as the number on the scale, especially after menopause.

→ 💊 Your hormone therapy questions. Type, delivery method, and what the evidence supports for your individual history.

→ 📋 Your screening plan. Do you know your breast density? Is your mammogram schedule right for your risk? Should supplemental imaging be part of the conversation? We help you work out what to ask your imaging provider.

→ 👪 Your family and personal history. Genetic factors, prior biopsies, and health history all shape how your screening and overall strategy are structured.

When all of these are looked at together, you walk out with more than a screening schedule. You walk out with a plan that accounts for your biology, your risk, and the factors you can change.

That’s what comprehensive looks like.

✅ If you’ve never had a breast health conversation that went beyond the mammogram, schedule a free discovery call. We’ll talk through your hormones, metabolic markers, and risk factors together and what a plan could look like for where your body is right now.

☕️If breakfast is coffee…
🥬Lunch is spinach and sadness…
🏃🏻‍♀️And the evening plan is another high-intensity workout…

Your body notices.

I see this pattern in women who have been told to eat less and move more for years.
❌They cut calories again.
❌They cut carbohydrates.
❌They add cardio.

➡︎➡︎➡︎Then the cold hands, poor recovery, missing period, flat mood, hair shedding, and stubborn fatigue get louder.

During prolonged calorie restriction, the body can lower energy expenditure. T3 may fall as part of adaptive thermogenesis, and reproductive and stress signaling can change too. High training volume with inadequate fuel and sleep adds another physiologic demand.

That response may reflect adaptive physiology and deserves a close look at energy availability, menstrual function, recovery, iron status, sleep, and the full clinical picture.

I ask very specific questions:
☀ Are you eating enough earlier in the day?
⚙ Are hard sessions followed by real recovery?
☾ Are you sleeping seven to nine hours consistently?
❤ Have your cycles changed or become lighter, heavier, or irregular?
☘ Did your energy and temperature drop after a major dietary restriction?

More discipline is not always the missing ingredient. Sometimes the plan is asking a depleted body to perform another unpaid shift.
