Pablo’s Tattoos Tattoo Apprentice at Spark Project Collective in Tucson, Az Available Friday-Tuesday

A tattoo artist should have an opinion. That doesn’t mean they should make every decision for you.

I can explain why a particular placement might work better, suggest adjustments, and offer alternatives when something isn’t quite right.

But I also want to understand what you prefer and why.

The best results usually come from working through those decisions together.

When it comes to placement, do you prefer your artist to take the lead or work through the options with you?

Sometimes a client has a specific placement in mind, and I see another option that might work better with the design.

That doesn’t mean either of us is wrong.

It gives us something to talk through.

I’ll explain what I’m seeing, why I’m recommending something, and what the alternatives are. Then we can make a decision together.

I think that’s a much better approach than simply agreeing with everything or making the decision for someone else.

Have you ever changed your original tattoo idea after talking it through with your artist?

One question I always want answered before placing a stencil is whether the client actually likes where it’s going.

I can recommend placement based on the design and how it fits the body, but the person wearing it needs to feel good about it too.

That’s why I like checking in before we move forward.

Would you rather your artist recommend the placement or decide entirely on your own?

Some tattoos take more than one appointment, and I think there’s something worthwhile about that process.

There’s time to develop the design, work through each section, let things heal, and see how the entire piece is coming together.

I enjoy working on projects that give me the opportunity to build something over time.

If you’ve ever worked on a multi-session tattoo, how many appointments did it take to finish?

A placement can look great on paper and feel completely different once you see it on your body.

That’s why I like taking the time to look at how a design sits before we start.

Sometimes the original placement works perfectly. Other times, a small adjustment makes a noticeable difference.

Either way, that’s something we figure out together.

There’s something about seeing a tattoo design on your body for the first time.

You can spend weeks thinking about an idea, looking at references, and working through the details. But seeing the stencil in place gives you a completely different perspective.

It’s one of the parts of the process I enjoy.

The first version of a tattoo design isn’t always the one we end up using.

Sometimes it’s a matter of adjusting the composition, simplifying a detail, or finding a better way to make everything fit together.

I enjoy that part of the process. It’s where a general idea starts becoming something more specific.

A little back and forth can make a big difference in the finished piece.

When you’re planning a tattoo, do you prefer to have everything figured out beforehand, or work through the details with your artist?

I’ve been working on a few traditional-inspired designs and wanted to share some of the finished concepts.

I like working with imagery that’s been part of tattooing for a long time and finding different ways to approach it without losing what makes the original imagery work.

These are a few of the directions I ended up taking.

If one of them is yours, send me a message or submit a tattoo request through the link in my bio.

Honestly, she came prepared.

Something to drink, somewhere to relax, and absolutely no need to make the appointment more complicated than it needs to be.
