Did you know?
A recent search of ClinicalTrials.gov identified 12 interventional studies for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) conducted across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

Six of these studies were conducted in the United States.

🔬 Currently, two Phase 2 clinical trials are actively recruiting participants, with enrollment goals of approximately 40 and 90 participants.

Clinical research continues to advance our understanding of HS and may help bring new treatment options to patients in the future.
While there is currently no cure for HS, available treatment options may help reduce symptoms, prevent flare-ups, and improve quality of life. Treatment plans are individualized and may include:
🔹 Topical medications for mild disease🔹 Oral antibiotics to help reduce inflammation and infection🔹 Hormonal therapies for appropriate patients🔹 Biologic medications that target specific inflammatory pathways🔹 Pain management strategies🔹 Surgical procedures for more advanced disease
Because HS affects each person differently, it is important to work closely with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
✨ Early diagnosis and treatment may help reduce disease progression and scarring.

What is Hidradenitis Suppurative (HS)
HS occurs when hair follicles become blocked and inflamed, leading to: Painful nodules or boils Recurrent abscesses
Drainage or odor Scarring and tunneling under the skin
It is not caused by poor hygiene and is not contagious.
HS usually develops in areas where skin rubs together, including:
• Underarms
• Groin
• Inner thighs
• Under the breasts
• Buttocks
• Lower abdomen
These areas contain sweat glands and hair follicles that are prone to friction and inflammation.
Why HS Is Frequently Misdiagnosed
HS is often mistaken for:
• Ingrown hairs
• Simple boils
• Infections
• Cysts
• Acne
Reasons it gets misdiagnosed:
• Symptoms can come and go
• Many providers may not recognize early-stage HS
• Patients may feel uncomfortable discussing symptoms due to location or drainage
• It can resemble common skin infections initially
On average, many patients live with symptoms for years before receiving a diagnosis.
If someone suspects HS, evaluation by a Dermatology provider experienced with HS is important.
