Thoughts from the hypnosis office: How extreme haunts can help you be your own hero

As we continue this series on fear, I wanted to address the idea of “feeling the fear and doing it anyway” through exposure to extreme situations. In this video I’ll share some thoughts on facing fear at extreme haunts during the Halloween season, but I’ve also had clients who have faced their fears in similar ways by skydiving, bungee jumping, etc.

Thoughts from the hypnosis office; Common themes for fears

In the hypnosis office, I have seen some pretty common themes associated with fear of driving, flying, confined spaces and crowds. While we might assume the most common reason is “fear of dying,” I haven’t found that to be the case. In this video, I’ll share some of the more common themes I’ve seen while helping clients overcome these fears.

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: The Sunday Scaries
Do you get the Sunday scaries? It’s that moment in your time off when your brain starts thinking ahead to your next workday, thinking about everything that needs to be done.

Unfortunately these anticipatory thoughts about tomorrow rob us of the enjoyment of today. In this video I’ll share some thoughts on how to combat the Sunday Scaries!

Let’s talk about overcoming Fear!

Hypnosis is an excellent therapeutic tool to help overcome fears!

I work so often with one fear or another that I’ve decided to dedicate a whole month to a series on how hypnosis can help overcome fears.

In this episode, I’ll address how some fears are rooted in the “misperceptions of the child.” Sometimes they are specific fears that begin in childhood, but very often globalize into larger fears that impact more broad aspects of our lives.

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: A field trip to the “Hospital for of Emotions.”

In this week’s episode I’ll share my recent visit to the “Hospital of Emotions” in Los Angeles. This is a temporary art exhibition in Southern California, exploring the complex emotions and experiences people experience in hospitals and through the process of illness (and recovery!).

The exhibition is available through the end of 2026, and in addition to community education, it is ultimately an opportunity to raise funds to rebuild the hospital.

The Fall Equinox and thoughts about Balance

The fall equinox is a precise moment in time representing the balance of light and dark as we head into fall. From here until the winter solstice, there will be gradually more hours of darkness than hours of light. This got me thinking about the fleeting idea of “balance” in our lives. Many aspects of our lives require ongoing negotiation of give and take to create balance- we might need to give more time and energy at work one day and hopefully it will be balanced out another day. Or we might need to give more in a relationship. I thought I’d share some ideas on how to think about this sense of imbalance in a more positive way.

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: Testing growth and change

With each client it’s important for us to know what their growth and change looks like. I often encourage them to put themselves into situations where they can test out their growth between sessions.

I recently had an opportunity to test my own growth since my retinal detachments by attending a conference that I hadn’t been to in several years. As I share this experience, I also reflect on how I learned throughout the event how to understand my new needs in an environment that is familiar and safe, which will help me expand my ability to go into less familiar environments in the future with more confidence.

I hope you enjoy this more personal video, and I hope it helps you find ways to test your own growth and progress (and expand your comfort zone)!

With each client it’s important for us to know what their growth an...

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: Back to school means back to structure!

As we say goodbye to summer, it’s time to celebrate how good it feels to get back to some structure. I experience this in the hypnosis office with my clients during the time of “back to school.” Whether you have kids and are tied to a school schedule or not, you might notice this seasonal flow, so let’s celebrate it!

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: Your Birthday is your own personal new year!

I like to think about my clients birthdays as their own personal new year. In this video, I’ll share how we use this idea to acknowledge achievements from the prior year and set goals for the future. I’ll also share some thoughts on understanding and expressing our “needs, wants, and desires” for our birthday so we can be known, seen and heard by those we are closest to!

Here’s an additional article I wrote for my colleagues about this topic.

Thoughts from the hypnosis office: The back to school tummy ache.

I’ve been working with a few clients whose childhood nervous stomach is still causing them challenges in adulthood. I admit I was one of those kids who missed plenty of school as a child (and had plenty of rough mornings as an adult) because of that nervous stomach.

Thankfully, when I became a hypnotist I was able to overcome this challenge. Well…. mostly! Through the years, I’ve also learned how my body responds to stress, especially the big stressors, so now I’m able to manage the regular everyday stressors and better navigate the more significant ones.

If your child (or your inner child) struggles with a back to school stomach ache, it’s important to remember that just because there’s an emotional element, their feelings are there for a reason. Through understanding the body’s reaction to stress and learning how to manage that stress, they might be able to overcome the stomach ache and more fully engage in life!
