Just going to leave this right here, reread it.

Your midwife is not your doula, but many women hire a midwife and expect her to be one.

This doesn't mean she won't hold your hand, encourage you through a contraction, help you find a more comfortable position, or remind you just how capable you are. She will do that many times throughout your labor.

But her primary responsibility is to monitor your well-being and your baby's, assess how labor is progressing, recognize complications, and make clinical decisions when needed.

And that is a BIG responsibility that requires her full attention. Even the most attentive, loving midwife cannot be in two places at once or give uninterrupted hands-on support while simultaneously attending to every clinical responsibility.

Your doula has a different role. She's there to offer continuous support throughout labor. She can help you navigate the intensity, suggest comfort measures, offer reassurance, support your partner, and help you feel informed, heard, and cared for.

Our roles are complementary, not interchangeable.

If you have considered hiring a doula but haven't, consider this your sign.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week šŸ¤

Can we be honest for a minute?

Breastfeeding isn’t always the dreamy photos people post.
It’s crying because your baby won’t latch.
It’s wondering if they’re getting enough.
It’s pumping at 2 a.m. while everyone else is asleep.
It’s leaking through your shirt in the grocery store.
It’s eating your meal cold because your baby needed you first.
It’s questioning yourself over and over while still showing up for the next feed.
BUTTTTT….
It’s also tiny fingers wrapped around yours.
Sleepy milk smiles.
The way they melt into your chest.
The comfort only you can give.
The quiet moments the world never sees.

I’ve breastfed all four of my babies, and every single journey has been different.

I’ve experienced oversupply.
I’ve experienced painful feeds.
I’ve navigated lip and tongue ties.
I’ve sat through the emotions of watching my baby undergo a lip and tongue tie release, praying it would help us both.
I’ve watched my supply change and had to learn all over again what my baby and my body needed.

This time has stretched me more than I expected.

As a doula, I teach breastfeeding. I help families prepare for it. I support mothers through it and work with amazing Ibclc who continue the amazing work.

But when it’s your own baby in your arms, it’s different.

I’ve cried.
I’ve questioned myself.
I’ve celebrated the smallest victories.
I’ve worried over feeds that hurt and wondered if we were ever going to find our rhythm.

And slowly… we’re getting there.

This journey has reminded me that breastfeeding isn’t just about making milk.

It’s about perseverance.
It’s about surrender.
It’s about asking for help.
It’s about giving yourself grace when things don’t go the way you imagined.

I’ve walked beside mothers with low supply, oversupply, NICU babies, tongue ties, mastitis, painful latches, pumping journeys, and mothers who lovingly chose another way to feed their babies.

Every single one of those mothers deserves to be celebrated.

So this week, don’t just celebrate breastfeeding.

Celebrate the mothers.

The ones who keep showing up.
The ones who cry in the shower.
The ones who celebrate every good latch.
The ones who are exhausted but keep loving fiercely.

Because when we support mothers, babies thrive.

From one mama who’s lived the highs and lows of breastfeeding, and from a doula who has the privilege of walking beside other women through theirs…

Happy World Breastfeeding Week.

You are not failing.
You are not alone.
Your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be beautiful.

Keep going, mama. I’m cheering for you. šŸ¤

Still on postpartum leave but checking inā™„ļø There’s something healing about salt air, sandy toes (face, arms, hair… wherever the boys could get it 🤣), and watching your babies make memories while your newest little one nurses in your arms.

Postpartum isn’t about ā€œbouncing back.ā€ It’s about slowly finding your footing again while learning a new version of yourself.
After the first month postpartum, many moms start feeling ready for little adventures again. A beach trip can be a beautiful way to reconnect with your family, soak up some sunshine, and give yourself space to breathe. I have always been drawn to the ocean and feel so refreshed after.

A few reminders:

ā˜€ļø Stay hydrated, especially if you’re breastfeeding. Your body needs extra fluids to support milk production and recovery.

🤱 Nurse on demand. Breast milk is still your baby’s primary source of nutrition and hydration, even during travel.

šŸ§‚ Salt air, sunshine, and fresh air can do wonders for your mental health, but don’t forget shade, rest, and listening to your body’s cues.

šŸ–ļø Keep expectations low. The goal isn’t a perfect vacation. The goal is connection, memories, and enjoying the season you’re in. ( sometimes I struggle with this)

šŸ’› Give yourself grace. Your body created life, birthed life, and continues to nourish life. Healing is not linear, and motherhood was never meant to be rushed.

As I sat on the beach nursing my daughter while watching my boys laugh and play in the waves, I was reminded that postpartum isn’t something to survive. It’s something to be supported through, honored, and lived.

Motherhood is messy.
Motherhood is beautiful.
Motherhood is sacred.

Soaking this in
Every second
Every breath
Every little weight on my chest

I am officially on postpartum leave
and this time I am not just supporting the journey
I am living it

As a doula I have held so many mothers through this space
the raw
the real
the sacred
the exhausting
the beautiful

And now I am here again myself
and it hits different

This season is raw and real and so incredibly sweet
Our baby girl arrived earlier than expected
but praise the Lord she is so healthy

The slow days
The healing
The constant feeding
The way time both stands still and flies

This is your reminder
postpartum is not something to bounce back from
it is something to move through gently

I will be soaking this season in with my family
leaning into rest
healing
and these newborn moments that pass way too fast

Mama Bare is not going anywhere
just being lived out in the most real way right now

This is my journey šŸ¤

Nesting isn’t just about a clean house…
it’s your body and heart preparing to bring life home šŸ¤

Butttttt….. lets be real mama, let me say this first:
it is completely normal to want to clean, organize, scrub baseboards at 9pm, and go a little crazy šŸ˜… or rip the living room up and possibly upholstery clean the whole couch and purge the toys into a trash bag šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø but here’s some extra ideas to help you put your focus in the nesting phases!

That surge of energy?
That ā€œeverything must be readyā€ feeling?
That’s instinct. That’s biology. That’s you preparing.

✨ AND… here’s your gentle doula reminder:

You don’t need a perfect nursery.
You need support.
You need rest.
You need a plan for you too.

Try shifting some of that nesting energy here:

✨ Instead of just organizing baby clothes…
→ set up a postpartum basket (pads, snacks, ni**le cream, water bottle)

✨ Instead of deep cleaning everything…
→ line up your support people (who’s bringing meals, helping with kids?)

✨ Instead of stressing over ā€œeverything being readyā€ā€¦
→ prepare your heart + mind for surrender, not control

✨ Instead of only packing baby’s bag…
→ pack YOUR comfort (loose clothes, lip balm, cozy socks, your favorite snacks)

Because postpartum matters just as much as birth.

And you deserve to be cared for too šŸ¤

Save this as your reminder:
You are not just preparing for a baby…
you are becoming a mother again.
