The Fall Equinox gives us a natural moment to pause and take inventory.

Not of what else we need to do.

But of what we may no longer need to carry.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is associated with the Metal element — breath, boundaries, grief, discernment, and release.

Metal is not about getting rid of everything.

It is about becoming more selective.

What still matters?

What has completed its season?

What are you carrying simply because you’ve carried it for a long time?

Sometimes release looks dramatic.

But often it’s quieter than that.

It can sound like:

“I don’t want to keep saying yes to this.”

“This expectation doesn’t fit me anymore.”

“I need more room.”

“I’m tired of being responsible for everything.”

“I want to protect my energy differently.”

Fall reminds us that making space is not the same as giving up.

Sometimes it is how we hear what matters again.

So as we move into this next season, consider this:

What are you ready to stop carrying?

If you know something needs to shift but you’re not sure where to begin, I created a Start Here page (link in comments) with free resources for nervous system support, seasonal wellness, and midlife transition.

Start there. Take what helps. Leave the rest.

Watching my daughter kick this goal reminded me of something I think we get wrong about transformation.

We love the goal moment.

The moment someone makes the decision, starts the business, leaves the job, changes the relationship, takes the trip, or finally says, This is what I want.

But that moment is rarely where the story begins.

There were practices before this kick. Misses. Frustration. Learning. Trying again.

And I think midlife is a lot like that.

We can become so focused on figuring out “What’s next?” that we forget to ask “What do I need first?”

That’s why the Root to Rise Method™ doesn’t start with RISE.

It starts with ROOT.

We create steadiness before asking ourselves to make another big change. We learn to listen to what our bodies have been trying to tell us. And from that foundation, the next step becomes a lot clearer.

You don’t have to have the goal figured out yet. You just need to know where you’re starting.

That’s exactly why I created the Nervous System Archetype Quiz. Take it to discover your pattern and the support your system may be asking for right now.

What if you didn’t have to push through this one?

We get remarkably good at pushing through by midlife.

Work. Family. Hormonal changes. Loss. Relationships. Mental load. The endless list of things that apparently need to happen before we’re allowed to rest.

But there comes a point when pushing harder stops working.

Sometimes what we actually need is to slow down long enough to notice what our body, energy, and inner voice have been trying to tell us.

That’s why I created a collection of free Root to Rise resources—to give you somewhere simple to begin.

No massive reinvention required.

Just choose what you need most right now and start there.

When the Earth element is out of balance, we may try to create safety by thinking through every possibility, anticipating everyone’s needs and keeping ourselves constantly useful.

From the outside, it can look like competence.

Inside, it may feel like:

“I cannot stop thinking.”
“Everyone depends on me.”
“I do not know what I need.”
“I feel guilty when I rest.”

These patterns are not evidence that you are broken.

They may be signs that your nervous system has learned to search for safety through responsibility and control.

The first step is not forcing yourself to let everything go.

The first step is understanding where you are beginning.

Happy National Dog Day 🐾

In Chinese Medicine, the Fire element is connected to joy, connection, warmth, and the ability to radiate from the heart.

And honestly, who understands Fire energy better than a dog? ❤️

They remind us to get excited when someone we love walks through the door.
To play. To connect. To soak up the sunshine.
And to find ridiculous amounts of joy in the simplest things.

This is the heart of Radiate — not forcing yourself to be positive, but making room for the people, places, and furry companions that naturally bring you back to joy.

Sometimes what helps us radiate is already curled up right beside us. 🐶

Happy National Dog Day to the four-legged joy-bringers. ❤️🐾

I used to believe clarity came from thinking harder.

If I could just analyze it enough, make the right list, consider every possible outcome, replay the conversation one more time…

Eagerly waiting for the answer to show up.

Except usually, it didn’t.

I just ended up more tired, more disconnected from myself, and somehow even less certain.

The Earth element in Traditional Chinese Medicine is its connection to nourishment, steadiness, and our ability to process what we take in—not just food, but information, responsibilities, and experiences too.

And sometimes what looks like “I need to figure this out” is really:

I need to stop taking in so much.

I need to let my nervous system settle.

I need to eat something healthy, go outside, move my body, get quiet, or stop asking myself to solve the entire next chapter before dinner.

Midlife has taught me that clarity doesn’t always arrive because I found the perfect answer.

Sometimes it arrives because I finally got quiet enough to hear what I already knew.

That’s RECENTER

Not checking out.

Not avoiding the decision.

Coming back to yourself before deciding what comes next.

You're not five different people. Your nervous system just has five different responses to pressure — and most of us default to one without ever naming it.

Swipe through the five patterns. See if you recognize yours in one of them, or in a mix.

Take the Nervous System Element Quiz to find your archetype and where the imbalance actually is.

I think the biggest barrier to self-care isn't discipline. It's not knowing where to even start.

If you've ever felt like you should be taking better care of yourself but just... don't, I want you to hear this: that's not a willpower problem. Your nervous system may have been running on overload for so long that stopping feels difficult, even when you want to.

This is a lot of what I try to do in my work — help women name where they actually are first, instead of handing them one more thing to add to the pile.

If this sounds familiar, I created a Start Here page with free resources to help you figure out what kind of support might be most useful right now.

No perfect routine. No giant overhaul. Just a place to begin.

Your nervous system doesn't know the difference between a tiger and a tone of voice. In midlife, hormonal shifts lower your threshold for what counts as a threat — so the same noise, the same interruption, the same request lands harder than it used to.

This isn't you getting worse. It's your baseline shifting, and there's a reason for it.

I built a short quiz to help you identify the specific pattern your nervous system defaults to under pressure, and what it's actually asking for.

Find the quiz in the comments.

Midlife isn't a crisis. It's your Second Spring.

Nobody hands you a manual for this stage of life — just a few gray hairs and a sudden urge to buy a Peloton, a paddleboard, or a pottery wheel.

Here's what I know instead: if you're in your 40s, 50s, or beyond and you feel a pull toward something new, you're not broken. You're not behind.

In Chinese medicine, this stage of a woman's life has a name — the Second Spring. Not decline. A second season of growth that a tradition thousands of years old has always recognized.

I walk women through this in five phases, five elements, one return to yourself:

Root (Water) — before anything new can grow, you root into clarity and nourishment
Release (Wood) — the trees don't apologize for dropping their leaves, and neither should you
Radiate (Fire) — once you've cleared the space, your joy doesn't need permission
Recenter (Earth) — this is how you metabolize a season before beginning the next one
Rise (Metal) — the kind that doesn't burn out, because it rises distilled, not loud

It isn't linear. It's a spiral — you'll move through all five phases many times in this life. Each turn, you rise freer. Each turn, you rise truer.

Not sure where you are in the cycle right now? Take the free 3-minute Nervous System Quiz — it'll tell you your nervous system type and exactly where to start. Link in comments 👇
