In Memory of Tahoe
On Saturday, September 26, Tahoe completed his journey in this life.

We were honored to know Tahoe through our work with Unharnessed Potential and to share the pasture with him during our Horse Sound Bath. Though our time knowing him was brief, there was something unmistakable about his presence - the quiet strength of an elder who had lived much and finally found a home to simply belong. It is easy to understand why he continues to be so deeply loved.

Believed to be in his early to mid-30s, Tahoe spent much of his life carrying heavy loads for a dude ranch before eventually finding his way to a rescue - overlooked because of his age and a club foot which required extra care.

On January 24, 2021, he found his way home to Unharnessed Potential. There, Tahoe discovered something he had perhaps never known before: Belonging.

He became a watchful protector of his herd, a steadfast presence for his family, and - by all accounts - a respected connoisseur of a really good scratch. Tahoe’s story is a beautiful reminder that age does not diminish our capacity for purpose, connection, or joy.

May his journey onward be peaceful, and may his true love continue to ripple through the herd, his family, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

The Well-Worn Soul

5 years ago, The Well-Worn Soul embarked on a mission to open a dialogue about embodied living and the interconnectedness of everything with Spiritual Wellness Coaching with John. Through the depth of human connection, The Well-Worn Soul grew into sound baths at the Twisted Bead of Edgewater, MD, Reiki, and later cacao ceremonies in the converted attic of the home we rented outside Annapolis, MD.

From the waters of the Chesapeake to the purple mountains majesty of the Rockies, The Well-Worn Soul brought us to Colorado Springs to begin again…and again…and again.

Following the sudden termination of our lease in the spring of 2025, The Well-Worn Soul was uprooted before it had experienced every season in the Healing House. And so, we had no other option but to begin again. Thankfully, Root Center for Yoga & Sacred Studies opened its doors to us and provided a home where we could continue teaching classes and hosting events.

Today, we (you guessed it!) begin again.

This time, we are BEYOND excited to share that The Well-Worn Soul has a new private studio in Downtown Old Colorado City, within Second Floor Studios, above Michael Garman’s Magic Town.

And, of course, we can’t open a new space without celebrating with our community!

We’re kicking things off with a FULL WEEK OF FREE EVENTS from October 1st - October 8th!

Opening Day is Thursday, October 1st:

☕ 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM - Grand Opening Celebration

Come by, take a peek at the new space, enjoy some coffee and donuts (and fruit!), and celebrate this next chapter with us!

Over the coming season, we’ll also be introducing 3 new recurring gatherings: Vinyasa Flow, Foundations of Yoga, and Guided Meditations with John.

There is something particularly meaningful about beginning again.

After all, it is the inherent nature of this human experience to exist in constant flux between becoming and un-becoming. And to, in this moment, hold the door between Then and Now is a beautiful place to invite you into this next chapter for The Well-Worn Soul.

With August 2026 drawing to a close, the central theme explored this month continues to reveal itself: alchemy.

Alchemy invites us to consider what happens when something is subjected to heat, pressure, and time.

August welcomes us into dialogue about both becoming and un-becoming.

The language of fire remains with us from July. Yet rather than how we tend the fire, we are sitting with what we offer to it. In Sanskrit, svāhā accompanies an offering placed into sacred fire. For something to be truly metabolized, it must first be offered.

Our bodies do not simply accumulate what they encounter. They digest, absorb, distribute, transform, and eliminate. Life requires discernment about what can nourish us, what must be released, and what may be transformed into energy for something new.

This month, that inquiry centered on abundance - not as endless consumption or the spiritualized denial of material scarcity, but as an invitation to actively participate in the richness of life.

Maybe the goal is not to pour from an empty cup, but to fill our cup so fully that it cannot help but overflow into the cups of others.

Love, after all, is a bottomless well!

True generational wealth may be a regulated nervous system. Alongside financial and material inheritance, we pass down patterns of regulation and dysregulation. We learn from one another what is safety, rest, conflict, and love.

We are living creatures, not endlessly productive machines. Balance has never been static. Homeostasis is dynamic, constantly responding to changing conditions.

So, resource yourself.

But remember: this is not individual responsibilization. We exist in relation to one another. We regulate, create, inherit, and become in relationship.

We inherently manifest together.

This Late Summer:

Resource yourself.

Receive what nourishes you.

Release what no longer does.

Allow yourself to change.

And remember that whoever you are becoming, we are never becoming alone.

Back in October 2023, held in the converted attic of the home we rented outside Annapolis, Maryland, The Well-Worn Soul hosted its first New Moon Cacao Ceremony. Since then, one question continues to arise in conversation - not only from those who gather with us, but from within our own ongoing relationship with the practice:

What is a cacao ceremony?

At first glance, this may seem like a simple question with a simple answer. Yet the deeper we continue to dive into the anthropology, archaeology, botany, linguistics, history, nutrition, and the living traditions surrounding this plant ally, the more we realize that the story of Cacao is far richer - and far more nuanced - than it is often presented.

We are excited to share that The Well-Worn Soul is initiating a 5-part essay series on The Well-Worn Soul Journal on Substack to explore this question through a more informed and consolidated conversation about what is a cacao ceremony.

Rather than searching for one definitive answer, this essay series is an invitation into thoughtful dialogue about cacao as a living, evolving, and deeply relational practice.
