🧠 Your Brain Has a To-Do List Too

Ever walk into a room and completely forget why you went in there?
Or spend ten minutes looking for your glasses while they're sitting on top of your head? 😂
We've all been there.
Occasional forgetfulness happens, especially when you're tired, stressed, distracted, or trying to juggle seventeen things at once.
But your brain deserves attention just like the rest of your body.
A few things that support brain health:
🧠 Get consistent, quality sleep.
🚶 Stay physically active.
🥗 Eat a balanced diet.
👥 Stay socially connected.
📚 Keep learning and challenging yourself.
And don't automatically dismiss memory changes as "just getting older."
If forgetfulness becomes more frequent, interferes with everyday activities, or concerns you or someone close to you, it's worth discussing with your healthcare provider.
Your brain does a lot for you. Give it a little love.

Fall Allergies or Something Else?

You wake up sneezing.
Your nose is running. Your eyes are itchy. You're feeling a little congested.
Great. Is it allergies, a cold, or something else?
Fall can bring its own set of allergy triggers, including ragweed pollen and mold spores from
damp leaves.
Here's something worth knowing:
Allergies often cause itchy eyes, sneezing, and clear nasal drainage.
Colds may include a sore throat, congestion, coughing, and sometimes a low-grade
fever.
Other respiratory infections can share many of those same symptoms.
And here's the tricky part: symptoms can overlap, so it's not always easy to tell the
difference.
Before you spend a week guessing what's wrong, consider talking with your healthcare
provider.
At Fountain Direct Primary Care, we believe understanding what's happening with your
health is the first step toward feeling better.

🎃 Your Bladder Is Trying to Tell You Something

October seems like the appropriate month to talk about things that go bump in the night.
Like getting up to use the bathroom. Again. 😂
Occasionally waking up to go may not be unusual.
But if you're suddenly urinating much more frequently, waking repeatedly at night, experiencing burning or urgency, feeling unusually thirsty, or noticing a significant change from what's normal for you, it's worth mentioning.
Changes in urination can have a number of causes, and some are surprisingly simple to address.
The point isn't to diagnose yourself.
The point is to notice when your normal changes.
Your body gives you information all day long. Don't be embarrassed to talk about it with your doctor. Trust us, we've heard worse.

🩹 That Cut Might Need More Than a Bandage

Most little cuts and scrapes heal just fine with basic care.
But every once in a while, that "it's probably fine" injury deserves another look.
Pay attention if you notice increasing redness, warmth, swelling, worsening pain, drainage, red streaking, or fever.
Those can be signs that an infection may be developing.
And if the wound came from something dirty, rusty, an animal bite, or a puncture, there may be other things to consider, including whether your tetanus vaccination is current.
We're big fans of not panicking over every paper cut.
We're also big fans of knowing when not to ignore something.
Not sure? Ask.

🦠 Antibiotics Aren't Always the Answer

You feel awful.
Your throat hurts. You're coughing. You're congested.
Surely an antibiotic will knock this out faster...right?
Not necessarily.
Antibiotics treat bacterial infections, not viruses. That means they won't help illnesses caused by viruses, and taking antibiotics when you don't need them can contribute to antibiotic resistance.
Sometimes the best treatment really is rest, fluids, symptom management, and time.
Other times, your symptoms need to be evaluated.
The important part is figuring out what you're actually dealing with instead of assuming every illness needs the same treatment.
At Fountain Direct Primary Care, that's where the conversation starts.

📱 Your Doctor Doesn't Need the Instagram Version

"I've been eating pretty well."
"I usually exercise."
"I don't drink that much."
"I get enough sleep."
Sound familiar? 😏
Here's the thing: your doctor isn't grading you.
Being honest about your habits, symptoms, medications, alcohol use, stress, exercise, sleep, or anything else affecting your health gives your healthcare provider better information to work with.
And better information can lead to better conversations and better decisions about your care.
At Fountain Direct Primary Care, the goal isn't perfection.
It's understanding what's really happening so we can help you take care of your health.

🍁 Fall Is a Great Time to Check Your Pantry

We're not suggesting you throw everything away and suddenly become a person who meal preps 21 perfectly portioned containers every Sunday. 😂
But the change of seasons is a good excuse to take a look at what's actually in your kitchen.
As cooler weather arrives, add some seasonal foods into the rotation.
Apples. Pears. Sweet potatoes. Squash. Pumpkin. Leafy greens. Beans and hearty soups packed with vegetables.
Healthy eating doesn't have to mean complicated recipes or a complete overhaul of your diet.
Sometimes it starts with putting better options within reach.
What's one fall food you actually look forward to every year?

🩺 The Appointment You Don't Think You Need

You feel fine.
Nothing hurts.
No weird symptoms.
So why would you see your primary care doctor?
Because primary care isn't only about treating something after it goes wrong.
Regular check-ins give you and your doctor an opportunity to look at changes in your health over time, discuss screenings that may be appropriate for you, review medications, and talk about concerns before they become bigger ones.
"Nothing is wrong" can actually be a pretty great reason to visit your doctor.
Let's work on keeping it that way.

Your Family's Health History Is Worth Knowing

"Does that run in your family?"
It's a question you've probably heard at the doctor's office.
And there's a reason we ask.
Your family's health history can provide useful clues about conditions you may have an increased risk of developing.
Heart disease. Diabetes. Certain cancers. High blood pressure. High cholesterol.
You don't need to create a 14-generation family tree.
Start with your parents, siblings and grandparents. Ask what major conditions they've had and, when possible, approximately how old they were when diagnosed.
Then share that information with your doctor.
You can't change your genetics.
But knowing your history can help you and your healthcare provider make more informed decisions about your care.

🩺 Do You Know Your Numbers?

You probably know your phone number.
You might know your credit score.
You definitely know how much your favorite coffee costs these days. 😂
But do you know some of the basic numbers connected to your health?
Blood pressure. Cholesterol. Blood sugar. Weight trends.
Knowing your numbers isn't about obsessing over them. It's about having a baseline and noticing when something begins to change.
One reading doesn't tell your entire health story, either. Trends over time can give your doctor much more useful information.
Know where you are today so you and your doctor can make better decisions about tomorrow.
