PFilates Pfilates was created by a board certified Urogynecologist to help people who have issues with urinary incontinence, prolapse and sexual dysfunction.

Pfilates goes beyond Kegel exercises by using movements that condition the pelvic floor but also tone the thighs and butt. Using pilates exercises based on extensive EMG recordings taken from the pelvic floor, Pfilates was created to provide a widely accessible method of recovering or enhancing pelvic floor strength.

Menopause and muscle. Lower estrogen affects the pelvic tissues, including the va**na, urethra and bladder, which makes leaks more likely. And keeping muscle takes more work as we get older. Strength training becomes more important, not less, pelvic floor included.

Your pelvic floor is part of your core. Our EMG study suggests the 10 PfilAtes™ movements produce 21% to 56% more pelvic floor activity than a person's own Kegel. Your own best two or three movements may give you even more, as much as 200% to 300% more for some people. That's how PfilAtes™ is designed. Women: https://www.pfilates.com/womens-course. This is about dignity and independence. Bladder control is one of the things that can decide whether someone stays at home or moves into a nursing home. Building strength now protects your freedom later.

Why does fitness get overlooked in pelvic floor care? Patients are usually offered pads, pills, or surgery, while training the muscles rarely comes up. It should be part of the conversation.

I recently sat down with Riëtte of Thrivve to talk about pelvic floor health after 50: why bladder leaks are common but not normal, and how a few focused minutes a day can help you regain confidence. Bladder control is a fitness issue. Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles, and muscles respond to training. Leaks are a reason to train, not something you just have to put up with.

We fixed the anatomy, yet 50% still leaked. My fistula repair work in West Africa taught me that surgery alone wasn't the full answer. Function matters as much as structure. That lesson became the foundation of PfilAtes™.
