What is the purpose of the Intrepid PBC study?

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a debilitating chronic liver disease that affects of life and has no cure. Although there are currently approved medications that can help patients manage their symptoms, there is a need for new and alternative treatments for PBC. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is the most common treatment for PBC, but up to 40% of patients who take UDCA do not respond to treatment, while approximately 5-10% of patients taking it cannot tolerate it, and have to stop taking the medicine. As a result, more research is being conducted to help discover alternative and improved therapies for PBC patients who do not tolerate or respond well to currently approved PBC treatments.
