February 17 is the Chinese New Year. This year, as every year, I’m remembering my teacher and friend Ruth Kneile. I carry her in my heart year round, still she is closest when I’m reminded of the many CNYs our TaiChi/ChiGong partners celebrated with art, practice, fellowship. Blessings Ruth, you are my hero.

Starting on February 4th the energy of the new year officially begins! So, starting now it is a good time to start making those Feng Shui changes, mentioned in my 2026 energy forecast.

If you’re interested in learning more, watch the replay at the link provided below, where I will give insights and recommendations on how to balance the energy in your home to work for you in the upcoming year.

At first glance, slow-moving practices like taijiquan and qigong might seem easier than fast-paced exercise, but many practitioners quickly discover that they can be surprisingly demanding. The difficulty lies in the combination of physical control, structural alignment, and internal awareness required.

Hello, my dear friends,

In this season you can start to slow cook your food and also start to stir-fry or steam your veggies.

Soups are great for this time of year. slow-cooked soup is a wonderful addition to your diet now. Slow-cooked soup with vegetables and beans is very nurturing to the lungs. If you don’t already eat bok choy try adding some to your slow-cooked soup.

Slow cooking releases the energy of the food in a very beneficial form for this time of year and into winter. You can add a little meat as well if you would like.

During this time you eat less chicken. Chicken is fire energy and if you deep-fry it you make the fire even stronger and that can hurt the lungs. Chicken baked occasionally is okay or chicken soup. Beef is okay or pork or fish. You can grill or any style but it’s best not to fry it. In order to calm down that energy better, be sure to have vinegar or sweet and sour dish to go along with these proteins.

For instance you can grill beef anyway you like but you have a dish with vinegar to go along with it such as pickles – sweet and sour stir fry pork or drink a lemon juice or take a tablespoon or teaspoon of vinegar. Green and leafy vegetables are always good!

Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin

Qi Gong Principles. Historically known as Dao Yin, Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese health preservation system, both active in movement & passive in stillness.

The 24-Posture Simplified Taijiquan:
In 1956, The Chinese Sports Committee brought together four Taiji teachers—Chu Guiting (褚桂亭), Cai Longyun (蔡龙云), Fu Zhongwen (傅鈡文), and Zhang Yu (張玉), led by the renowned master Li Tianji (李天骥) to choreograph the truncated form. The goal was to give the beginner an introduction to the essential elements of taijiquan yet retain the traditional flavor of the longer forms with continuous and flowing movements, proper body alignment and the integration of mind and body.

Learn more about the creation of this popular "Beijing" Yang style form and why these teachers were selected in a free article from our Autumn 2023 issue.
