Foods That Support Babies & Toddlers With Eczema 👶🌿
If your baby has eczema, you’ve probably wondered, “Is something they’re eating causing the flare-ups?”
As a child nutritionist and mom of two, I understand this personally. My younger son has dealt with seborrheic dermatitis since infancy, and we’ve managed it through skincare, nutrition and environmental changes.
But here’s what parents need to know:
Eczema isn’t always caused by food allergies!
Genetics, skin barrier dysfunction and environmental triggers often play a role. While no food can cure eczema, good nutrition supports overall skin health and growth.
Here’s what I include 👇
🐟 Omega-3s: Salmon, ground flaxseeds, hydrated chia seeds and ground walnuts for essential fatty acids.
🥑 Healthy fats: Avocado, olive oil and smooth nut butters for energy and nutrients.
🥕 Fruits + vegetables: Berries, carrots, spinach and sweet potatoes for vitamins and antioxidants.
🥣 Iron + protein: Dal, tofu, beans and eggs for healthy growth.
💧 Hydration: Age-appropriate fluids throughout the day.
On low-appetite days, I rely on familiar, nutrient-dense meals like khichdi with ghee or oatmeal with nut butter.
But nutrition is only part of eczema management. Regular moisturizing, appropriate topical treatments and identifying genuine triggers are essential.
⚠️ Don’t eliminate dairy, eggs or other food groups without medical guidance. Unnecessary restrictions can create nutritional gaps.
And remember, eczema and cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) aren’t the same thing.
