Take a look at this great resource on strengthening family leadership!

Over the past several years, South Dakota's Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS) initiative has worked alongside families, community partners, and state leaders to strengthen family voice and leadership across early childhood systems.

We're excited to share Growing Family Leadership in South Dakota: A Practical Guide for Building Authentic Family Engagement and Shared Leadership.

This resource captures lessons learned through the ECCS project and translates them into practical strategies, tools, and recommendations that organizations can use to build meaningful partnerships with families and create opportunities for shared leadership.

When families are recognized as experts in their own experiences, stronger systems and better outcomes follow.

Help shape the future of maternal and infant health in South Dakota.

Whether you are pregnant, a parent, family member, caregiver, or health care professional, the South Dakota Department of Health wants to hear from you.

Take this 5–10-minute survey to share what is working well, where challenges exist, and what support South Dakota families need most. Your feedback will help guide future maternal and infant health investments and improvements through South Dakota’s Rural Health Transformation Program.

Routine hearing screenings continue throughout childhood!

School health screenings can play an important role in identifying potential health concerns early.

Heidi Burns, RN, with Public Health Nursing Services in Philip, recently screened 71 students at Kadoka Elementary School for vision, hearing, and oral health concerns.

Heidi also saw increased participation in fluoride varnish compared with last year, helping support preventive oral health for students.

This year, Heidi is working with five school districts to provide screenings and help connect students and families with important preventive health services across the West Central Region.
