🥳HAPPY DIA-VERSARY🥳
Today was a whirl wind of unexpected crazy. Our little MaKayla has not been feeling well since Monday. Yesterday she was throwing up and said her lower belly hurt. Today she told me it burns when she pees. I took her to the doctor assuming it was a UTI. After the urinalysis came back with levels of sugar, ketones, and protein, the doctor came in and had her blood sugar level tested. Fasting Glucose level at 223. It should be 130. He ran some other test which included an A1C which was 14. Should be less the 8. He told us to pack our bags for 3 days and head straight to Primary Childers Hospital ER in SLC. (3.5 hrs away) He called to let them know we were on our way bc of DKA via POV. After arriving at PCH we were admitted where we are quickly beginning to learn more about childhood diabetes type 1. We also learned it is common for kids with one autoimmune problem (hashimotos diagnosis is one) have other autoimmune problems. She is on an insulin drip and will have her blood checked about every hour, and a potassium drip which they check every 2 hours, and a sugar water drip. We will be here overnight while they bring her A1C level down s l o w l y. Tmrw we start 2 full days of “sudden on set Type 1 Diabetes” school. Scotts holding down the fort at home, getting kids to and from appts, school, work, theater etc.
