Sometimes, the most important thing your dentist can do is simply ask the right question.

“How are you sleeping?”

She came in for routine dental care. But that simple question opened a much bigger conversation. A closer look raised concerns about her breathing and sleep, leading to a sleep study and ultimately, a diagnosis of sleep apnea.

The first priority was her immediate safety. Based on the results of her sleep study, CPAP therapy was recommended to help support her breathing while she sleeps. And right now, it’s helping.

But her story doesn’t stop there.

Dr. Jenna will continue working with her to explore additional treatment options that may address the underlying factors contributing to her breathing and sleep concerns.

That’s an important part of airway dentistry. We address the immediate concern first, then keep asking why. Our goal is to recognize what’s going on, connect patients with the right providers when needed, and build a path forward based on what is best for their health.

As she so beautifully shares in this video, that’s what integrity in healthcare looks like.

At Foundation First Airway Center, the goal is simple: help you breathe better, sleep better and live healthier.

There are a few things you should know about airway dentists.

Airway dentists are dentists first. We went to dental school, learned to care for teeth and create healthy smiles, and started practicing just like everyone else.

Then we got curious.

We started asking why. Why the grinding? Why the crowding? Why the mouth breathing? Why the poor sleep? And the more we learned, the more we realized how much the mouth can tell us about the way someone breathes, sleeps, grows and feels every day.

That curiosity changes the way you practice. You start looking deeper, asking different questions and collaborating with other providers to understand the whole picture.

That’s the thinking behind Foundation First Airway Center.

Curious about what your mouth might be telling you? Let’s look deeper.

Jaden’s family drove 3½ hours looking for answers.

He was struggling with sleep, morning headaches, anxiety and episodes where he felt like he was suffocating. Straightening his teeth wasn’t the goal. Understanding why he was struggling was.

Dr. Jenna looked deeper, evaluating his airway, jaw development, tongue function and oral restrictions. His treatment focused on creating the space and function his body needed, with expansion, alignment and additional therapies as part of a comprehensive plan.

A year later, the physical changes were significant. But those weren’t the changes that mattered most to Dr. Jenna or Jaden’s family.

Today, Jaden is strong, healthy and confident, preparing to serve his country in the military.

This is why we look beyond the smile.

Better Breathing. Better Sleep. Better Health.

This is Foundation First Airway Center in Vero Beach.

We’re here to help you breathe better, sleep better and live healthier.

And we start by asking why.

Why are the teeth crowded? Why do you clench or grind? Why does your child mouth breathe? Why are you snoring, waking up tired or struggling to sleep well?

At Foundation First, Dr. Jenna Schwibner takes a comprehensive approach to airway dentistry, looking beyond the teeth at breathing, sleep, jaw development, tongue function and the structures that can affect how well you breathe.

We work with children, teens and adults and collaborate with sleep physicians and other healthcare providers when your care extends beyond dentistry.

Because sometimes straight teeth are only part of the story. We want to understand what’s happening underneath them and address the foundation first.
