“Roam”

Finding peace isn’t fast & easy, it’s painfully slow & sometimes hard. At times you may wonder if you’ll ever find it at all.

When peace finally does arrive it slips in so quietly that you’re not always aware it’s there. When you do realize it’s finally come, open the door and let it in.

“721 days to exhale”

The second grief shows up at your door it settles deep in your body. You feel the tightness in every single muscle. Your jaw stays clenched. You breathe shallow breaths. This becomes your normal way of living; energetically holding your breath, never even realizing you’re doing it.

When you finally move through your grief, reaching that light at the end of the tunnel you thought you’d never see, you experience an energetic exhale. Your body relaxes. Your jaw releases. You take in long, deep breaths. You start to breathe new life in & it feels like being reborn.

“The final stage of the grief process isn’t what I imagined it would be”

Acceptance is the final step of the grief process. You make progress towards that stage, but then you backslide & have to start all over again. Reaching acceptance, you finally step into the light at the end of the tunnel that you weren’t sure you’d ever reach.

The stage of acceptance isn’t just about coming to terms with the death of your loved one. It’s also accepting that you can give yourself permission to live again, to be happy again, to love and be loved again.

“In order to put yourself back together again, you have to let your grief break you apart”

Grief shatters you into a million pieces. You try to pick those pieces up, but some are lost forever. While crawling through your grief journey new pieces of you will be discovered.

The old & new parts of you get woven together, cemented by the emotional scars from your journey. You were broken, but you can be repaired. You won’t look the same, but you’ll be stronger than you were before.

“Don’t unpack and live there”

Mourning your loved one after their death is human nature. It’s the expectation we all have of how the grief process goes.

Work through your grief. Allow it & make eventual peace with it. But, don’t let living in a perpetual state of mourning be your final destination. Don’t unpack & live there.
