👻🎃 Things to GHOST This Season! 👻

This spooky season, let’s ghost the things that haunt our peace! 💜🚂

👻 Ghost the guilt — You don’t have to be a perfect parent to be an amazing one!

👻 Ghost the comparisons — Every child develops at their own pace, and every journey looks different.

👻 Ghost the pressure — It’s okay to skip an activity, say no to an event, or take a quiet night at home.

👻 Ghost the unrealistic expectations — Progress isn’t always linear, and small victories deserve to be celebrated!

👻 Ghost the idea that you’re alone — Asking for help is a strength, and your support system is there for a reason. 💕

This Halloween season, let’s focus on what truly matters: celebrating our kiddos, embracing progress, and giving ourselves a little grace along the way. 🧡

What are YOU ghosting this season? 👻 Drop yours in the comments!

🎃👻 Halloween Costumes: More Than Just Dressing Up! 👻🎃

Halloween costumes can be a fun way to practice communication, independence, sensory tolerance, and social skills! 🧡

🦸 Let your child help choose their costume to encourage choice-making and communication.

👗 Practice putting on and taking off costume pieces to build independence and dressing skills.

🎭 Try costume pieces ahead of time to help your child become comfortable with new textures, sounds, or sensations.

🗣️ Practice phrases like “Trick or treat,” “No thank you,” “I like it,” or “All done.”

🧩 Remember: a costume doesn't have to be traditional! Comfortable clothes, pajamas, a favorite character shirt, or no costume at all are all perfectly okay.

The goal isn't a perfect costume—the goal is a Halloween experience that feels safe, comfortable, and fun for your child. 🧡🎃

🍂🎃 Fall Fun + Fine Motor Skills! 🍁

Fall is the perfect season to sneak skill-building into everyday play! These simple activities can help kiddos with autism practice fine motor skills, hand strength, coordination, and independence while having fun. 🧡

🍁 Leaf Sorting: Use colorful leaves or paper leaves to sort by color, size, or shape.

🎃 Pumpkin Transfer: Use tongs or tweezers to move small pom-poms, cotton balls, or pretend pumpkin seeds from one container to another.

🍎 Apple Lacing: Cut out an apple shape from cardboard and punch holes around the edge for a simple lacing activity.

🌽 Fall Play Dough: Roll, pinch, squeeze, and manipulate play dough to make pumpkins, leaves, acorns, or other fall shapes.

🕷️ Spider Web Rescue: Create a “web” with yarn and have your child use their fingers or tweezers to rescue small toys trapped inside.

💡 Parent Tip: Follow your child’s interests and keep activities short and successful. Fine motor practice doesn’t have to look like “work”—play is practice, too! ❤️

🎃👻 Trick or Treat… Give Me Something to SAY! 👻🎃

October is AAC Awareness Month, and we’re celebrating every way our clients communicate! 🗣️💬

Whether it’s a speech-generating device, picture symbols, gestures, signs, or another form of AAC, communication is communication—and every voice deserves to be heard. ❤️

This Halloween, let’s remember that communication doesn’t always sound like words. Sometimes it looks like pointing to a picture, selecting a button, signing “more,” or using a device to say, “TRICK OR TREAT!” 🍬🎃

💡 AAC Parent Takeaway:
During trick-or-treating, give your child opportunities to communicate without pressure! Model simple words or phrases on their AAC system like “trick or treat,” “more,” “all done,” “thank you,” “I like it,” or “different one.” You don’t have to wait for them to ask—modeling AAC shows them that their communication system is available for fun, connection, and everyday life! 🧡

✨ The best treat? Being given the time, tools, and support to communicate.

Let’s celebrate AAC, honor every communicator, and make sure everyone gets a chance to share their voice! 🎃💬

📚 IEP vs. 504: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child needs an IEP or a 504 Plan, you’re not alone! Both are designed to support students at school, but they serve different purposes. Please don't be afraid to reach out with questions, but let's take a quick look!!!

🧩 IEP (Individualized Education Program)
An IEP is for students who qualify for special education services. It provides individualized goals, specially designed instruction, accommodations, and/or related services based on the student’s educational needs.

💙 504 Plan
A 504 Plan provides accommodations and supports to help a student with a disability access and participate in school. It does not typically provide specialized instruction.

✨ The big takeaway:
An IEP focuses on specialized education and individualized educational goals, while a 504 focuses primarily on access and accommodations.

Every child is different, and determining which support is appropriate depends on the individual student’s needs and evaluation.

Save this post for when you need a quick refresher—and share it with another parent who might find it helpful! 💗

🧩 Simple Tool, Big Impact!

A First-Then Board is a visual support that helps children understand what to expect and can make transitions much easier.

Try using it at home: ➡️ First: Brush teeth 🪥 ➡️ Then: Read a favorite book 📖

➡️ First: Put away toys 🧸 ➡️ Then: Play outside 🌳

Visual supports reduce anxiety, encourage cooperation, and help build independence by making routines predictable.

💙 Tip: Keep it simple, use pictures when possible, and celebrate each success!

Save this post for your next daily routine! Lots of free templates are pre-made too!

"My favorite part about working for All Aboard ABA is the nurturing environment and the drive for growth for our clients and fellow coworkers. This company sees every client as an individual—not just a statistic. We never give up on a child; instead, we find new ways to adapt our approach so every child has the opportunity to succeed."

✨ Fun Fact: Veronica loves anime, video games, reading books, and crafting! She also proudly shared that she is also autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) and is passionate about giving children the guidance, understanding, and support she wishes she had growing up.
