🧡 Honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day 🧡

Today, we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples...past, present, and future.

At Align North, we recognize that mental health and healing are deeply connected to culture, identity, community, and belonging.

While we acknowledge the lasting impacts of historical and intergenerational trauma, we also honor the strength, joy, wisdom, and traditions that continue to thrive within Indigenous communities.

Healing includes being seen, heard, respected, and connected to who we are - for everyone.

Indigenous peoples are not just part of our history. They are an important part of our present and future.

Today, we invite our community to take a moment to listen, learn, support Indigenous voices, and reflect on how we can help create spaces where everyone feels valued and a sense of belonging.

Sometimes the hardest part of therapy is taking that first step. We’d like to make the next one a little easier.

Instead of asking:

“How can I be more productive this week?”

Try asking:

What would make this week feel a little easier?

Where do I need more support?

What can I say no to?

What have I been avoiding because it feels uncomfortable?

What is one thing I can do this week that Future Me will appreciate?

You don't need to reinvent your life every Monday.

Sometimes change starts with noticing what isn't working anymore. 🌱

And sometimes it starts with asking for support.

If therapy has been on your mind, you can take that first step here:

💚 Happy National Psychotherapy Day! 💚

I know I know, it's technically the evening and the day is over, but...

It feels like a pretty good moment to pause and celebrate the people who make Align North what it is.

Psychotherapy is such a unique kind of work. We get invited into some of the most vulnerable, complicated, painful—and sometimes surprisingly hilarious—parts of people’s lives. We sit with grief, trauma, anxiety, relationships, identity, big life transitions, and all the messy stuff that comes with being human.

And I am incredibly grateful for the clinicians who choose to do that work at Align North.

Each of our therapists brings their own personality, experience, approach, and strengths to the therapy room. There is no single “right” way to do therapy, because there is no single kind of person who walks through our doors. Finding a therapist you genuinely connect with matters.

I’m also incredibly proud that Align North gets to call the Iron Range home.

When I started this practice, I wanted it to be about more than appointments behind closed doors. I wanted us to be part of the community we serve—to show up at community events, support our neighbors, make mental health care feel a little more approachable, and create a space where people know they matter.

From our little community food shelf, to community events, presentations, outreach, and the everyday work happening in therapy sessions, we are so grateful to be growing our roots here on the Range.

So today, on National Psychotherapy Day, I want to celebrate our clinicians, our clients, and the community that continues to welcome and support Align North.

Thank you for trusting us with your stories. Thank you for stopping by our tables and saying hello. Thank you for recommending us to someone you care about. And thank you for allowing us to be part of this community.
We’re really glad to be here. 💚🌅

Happy National Psychotherapy Day from all of us at Align North!!!

Midweek check-in. 💛

Before you keep scrolling, ask yourself:

What am I carrying today that feels heavy?

What does my body need?

Is there something I keep telling myself I’ll deal with “later”?

And maybe most importantly…

How am I actually doing—not how am I functioning?

Those can be two very different things.

If you’ve been getting through your days but know something needs to change, therapy can be a place to start.

Our very own, Jennifer Elmberg, is presenting today and the next three days at Youth Mental Health Day at the MN Discovery center in Chisholm.

Today’s the day!

I’m spending the next three days at Youth Mental Health Day, talking with 9th graders about something I wish every young person learned early: your body is part of your mental health, too.

We’re talking about the somatic mind-body connection and how stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and emotions can show up physically, how to start noticing those signals, and a few simple ways to help the nervous system feel a little safer.

And because I apparently cannot teach teenagers about somatic awareness without making it memorable, one of today’s most important clinical interventions is:

✨ Unclench your bu******ks. ✨

Seriously, though...sometimes healing and self-awareness don’t begin with some huge breakthrough.

Sometimes they begin with noticing:

My shoulders are up by my ears.

My jaw is clenched (like waking up this morning with a headache 😅)

I’m holding my breath.

My whole body is bracing.

And then giving your body permission to soften, even just a little.

If even one kid walks away today understanding their body a little better...or realizing there’s nothing weird about having physical reactions to big feelings I will consider that time very well spent.

Small shifts really can make a big difference. So take a minute and unclench those cheeks and breathe.

Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic.

Sometimes it looks like:

• Replaying conversations after they happen
• Needing reassurance that everything is okay
• Feeling responsible for everyone around you
• Irritability or a very short fuse
• Procrastinating because you’re overwhelmed
• Stomachaches, nausea or muscle tension
• Being exhausted but unable to relax
• Constantly thinking about what could go wrong

Sometimes people live with anxiety for so long that it simply starts to feel like their personality.

It doesn’t have to stay that way.

Therapy can help you understand what your nervous system is responding to and develop new ways of navigating it.

You don’t have to be falling apart to go to therapy.

You can go because you’re tired of overthinking everything, or because you keep having the same argument. You can go because you’re functioning… but barely.

Because something from your past keeps showing up in your present.

Because you want to understand yourself better.

Or simply because life feels harder than you think it should right now.

Therapy doesn’t have to be the last resort. It can be a place to figure things out before everything feels overwhelming. And we as providers have been there too!

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, Align North has providers accepting new clients RIGHT NOW. This is the list of providers with Align North accepting new clients:

Zach Summers- telehealth and community meet up (Duluth area), ages 11 and up
Lindsey Naughton- telehealth, ages 11 and up
Laura Rosier- in person and telehealth, accepting adults only at the moment.
