🧠✨ The Power of Play: Why It's Serious Business for Little Brains
Play isn't just fun and games — it's how babies and kids build the brain, body, and heart skills they'll use for life. Here are the fast facts. 👇
🧩 Play builds the "thinking brain"
Play strengthens *executive function* — focus, self-control, problem-solving, and mental flexibility. Think of it as the brain's air-traffic control system, and play is the training ground. It even helps balance impulsivity and big emotions.
🗣️ Play grows language & smarts
Kids who play with blocks and traditional toys show gains in language, math, and spatial skills.
❤️ Play = connection + calm
"Serve and return" play with a loving caregiver builds strong bonds AND turns down the body's stress response. In tough times, play becomes even MORE important — it's a natural buffer against stress.
🤸 Play moves the body
Active play supports healthy weight, strong hearts, coordination, and better mood. Movement and joy go hand in hand.
⏰ How much? (a quick age guide)
👶 Babies (under 1): Interactive floor play throughout the day + at least 30 min of tummy time. Skip the screens.
Toddlers & preschoolers (1–5): Aim for ~180 min of active play daily (some of it energetic!). Limit screens; more outdoor time is better.
🧒 Ages 6–17: At least 60 min of physical activity every day.
