Easterseals Northern California Weโ€™re creating a more equitable world so people with developmental disabilities can choose their path.

We do this by reimagining how care and support can be better connected to fill gaps in human services across an individualโ€™s lifespan. Easterseals Northern California, formerly Easterseals Bay Area, is creating a more equitable world so people with developmental disabilities can choose their path.

It was all hands on deck at CaliKid Burgers 'n Shakes in Livermore on Friday as our Kaleidoscope Community Adult Program participants where invited out to get some hands-on work experience for this October.

Our team spent the afternoon learning food-handling safety, delivering food to customers, filling ketchup cups, wiping down tables and branding to-go bags.
Real work that builds real skills.

Opportunities like this benefit both sides of the counter. Not only do they give participants the chance to build workplace skills that open doors, they also give communities the chance to learn first-hand that inclusion is more than just a buzzword.

Big thanks to Calikidburgers for making this event happen. Itโ€™s all in a dayโ€™s work!

โ€œTrick or treat!โ€ Itโ€™s the line every kid is expected to say at the door. But on Halloween night, some children wonโ€™t say it at all.

A blue trick-or-treat bucket has become an informal sign of autism awareness, a quiet signal that the child carrying it may communicate differently. Some kids avoid eye contact or need a little longer to walk up to your porch, pick a treat or answer a greeting. That doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™re any less excited to be there.

What can you do when someone rings your bell? Be willing to give candy without waiting for the magic words. Give them time. Let them answer in their own way, or not at all.

Blue pumpkin or not, every child who comes to your door deserves a treat. Even the ones who never say โ€œtrick or treat.โ€

Two years ago, Brandon Cox sat in our Walnut Creek waiting room for the first time, wondering what the future held for his son. A month ago, he walked in as CEO.

Brandon first learned about Easterseals Northern California as a parent, not an executive. After two-years navigating his son's diagnostic process โ€“ a challenging journey that's all too common for many families โ€“ he found his way to and ESNorCal. He spent an hour each week in that waiting room with families facing the same questions he was and watching staff live the values painted on the wall. Finding, as he puts it, hope.

His son still visits our same Walnut Creek office today for social skills group. And Brandon now leads the organization that's been part of his family's journey every step of the way.

It wasn't a job he was looking for. He was looking for the right support for his son. What he found was something he couldn't ignore.

"The value of what was happening even in the waiting room, you couldn't ignore it. You couldnโ€™t ignore the impact it was having on people's lives."

When he eventually opened himself up to new opportunities, he created a prompt in AI with parameters set for the mission-driven work he was looking for. Every once in a while, he'd check back in with the same question: "Have you found my dream job yet?" Then one day Easterseals NorCal popped up in answer โ€“ the place where his son had been thriving for more than two years, where he'd spent an hour each week meeting families like his and where he had never considered being CEO.

"I think things happened for a reason. I think I ended up needing to be in that space for a reason."

As ESNorCal approaches its 100th year, we couldn't be more grateful to have someone leading us who knows firsthand what it means to sit in that waiting room โ€” and what it means to walk out with hope.

Welcome, Brandon. ๐Ÿ’™

Oakland showed up. So did we. โšพ

Raimondi Park was oozing community-centered energy for Easterseals NorCal's fundraiser event on Sunday with the .Ballers, making us feel right at home. Every ticket purchased through our link put 15% back into our programs and this community made that count.

We had a packed-out section, the most enthusiastic fans in the stadium. We even had .The.Rally.Possum working our booth.

Thank you to everyone who came out, cheered loud and supported ESNorCal just by being there.

The Ballers prevailed 24-16 in a slugfest for the ages but everyone came away a winner. Raising funds for a good cause is a team sport and we can't thank the Ballers enough for their support. ๐Ÿ’™

Join us at Oakland's own Field of Dreams, Raimondi Park. โšพ

Every ticket purchased through our link, for ANY Oakland Ballers game, puts 15% back into ESNorCal programs. You're out here doing philanthropy with a hot dog in one hand and a baseball glove in the other.

But August 30 just happens to be Fan Appreciation Day, and WE are the community partner, which makes it an exceptionally good game to choose!

Oakland Ballers vs. Long Beach Coast. Come for the baseball. Stay for the good cause.

Grab your peanuts, get some Cracker Jacks and come out to the ballgame with us. โšพ

We'll be at Raimondi Parkfor Fan Appreciation Day on Aug. 30 as our home team, the Oakland Ballers, takes on Long Beach Coast. There's never been a better excuse to get out to the park because 15% of every ticket purchased through our link goes straight back to ESNorCal programs.

It's not just for Fan Appreciation Day either. ANY Ballers game counts through our link in bio. So grab your glove, bring the fam, get out to a game and support our local Ballers and ESNorCal at the same time!
