Meet Dazya, one of the contestants taking on The Shift.
Going into respiratory care, Dazya thought it was all about the lungs. But the further she gets into the field, the more she’s learning just how connected everything really is.
The heart, the neurological system, the kidneys... they all play a part in respiratory care, and seeing those connections has been one of the most eye-opening parts of her journey.

Sometimes your life’s biggest plot twist starts with failing out of nursing school and watching Mulan.
Eight years ago, Alex realized nursing wasn’t for him. So what did he do next? He decided, “Screw it. I’m gonna live in China.”
That decision completely changed the direction of his life and eventually led him here, competing on The Shift.
And somehow, it all comes back to one simple question: What are you grateful for today?

Did I check the wrong box... or was my Creator protecting me from the path I thought I wanted—and leading me toward the calling I was actually meant for?

What started as a career I never expected became a passion for critical care, education, leadership, and respiratory therapy.

Looking back, maybe I didn’t take a wrong turn.
Maybe I was exactly where I needed to be.
This is a little more of my journey to becoming JJtheRT.
And honestly… I’m still figuring out where He’s taking me next.

⚾️ From baseball to respiratory therapy… 🫁

RT wasn’t always the plan.

I started out chasing a different dream, but somewhere along the way I found respiratory therapy—and it completely changed the direction of my life.

What started as a career choice became a passion for critical care, education, leadership, and helping the next generation of RTs find their place in healthcare.

The crazy part?

I had no idea where this road would take me.

From the bedside… to the classroom… to leadership… to JJtheRT.

This is a little more of my story.

And I’m just getting started.

🫁 “All they do is oxygenate and ventilate… how hard can that be?”

On the surface? Sounds simple.
In reality? You’re managing life support.

Dialing in oxygen when too much or too little can cause harm.
Managing ventilators that can save a life… or damage lungs if you get it wrong.
Making real-time decisions when a patient is crashing and there’s no pause button.

It’s not just oxygen. It’s not just vents.

It’s physiology, pressure, timing, and critical thinking—every single breath.

Simple? Not even close.
