Things happening on the homestead this week...
School has been back in session, and my youngest is a freshman in high school this year. He's made it to week three and is already sick with his first viral infection. The moment he feels something coming in he heads to treat himself with fire c***r and mullein extract...I don't tell him, he just does it. He reports improvement in symptoms within 30 minutes. Right now, he is dosing at twice daily and has been for two days...less coughing, less nasal congestion and subsequent discharge.
Fire c***r, mullein extract, and mullein tea are all currently in stock.
My hubby canned a beautiful batch of garden fresh tomatoes, and I'm going to be doing a seasoned batch tomorrow. We are also going to be making another hotsauce...a roasted bourbon peach ghost! 😮...and she's gonna be delicious!
We found a couple of purple spore puffballs in the front yard, but given our current location decided best to just watch them grow.
I'm also going to be making snacking "chips" from some of our golden beets...maybe they'll pair well with my tomato "chips"...ohhhh, that's the start of a veggie trail mix! What else do y'all think would work in that??
Update on the baked beans... they were DELICIOUS! Kiddo said, "These are better than any store bought I've ever had!" The secret...no ketchup was used, but homemade tomato juice and tomato powder (from dehydrated skins), I used one pound of peppered bacon for 4 pounds of beans (not drained), 1 large onion, 4-5 cloves of garlic, brown sugar, black strap molasses, and approximately 3 cups of brine leftover from our jalapeno/serrano cowboy candy! This experiment was a complete success. I will definitely be making them again.
And the kitten distribution center is at it again. My youngest daughter rescued a cute lil' furball, lovingly named Tater Tot, just two months after my son found his black one which was named Juno (I call him T-cat). Both kittens are exceptionally happy and being cared for at their dad's home in Weston as we cannot keep them here.
More to come...we'll see how all turns out tomorrow!
Blessed evening all...stay well!
