Ever fight your horse for that left lead in a small pen? 🤠

Hall of Fame horseman Craig Cameron shows a simple fix that changes everything: get your weight a little to the outside.
Lean in and your horse gets heavy on the inside, making the left lead much harder.

Shift the other way, sit back just a hair, and stay balanced (we’re not jumping yet—just riding). That lets him pick up his front end easier.

One small adjustment.

Big difference in how your horse feels.

In this industry, nobody turns their back on you. 🤠
Breakaway roper Jackie Crawford opens up on the latest episode of The Total Podcast about the real family that shows up when it matters — the one you grow up with at the rodeos.

Even if you’ve got differences, you pull over when someone’s broke down. You help in the box. You show up for each other’s kids. No questions asked.

That’s the horse world. That’s the rodeo family.

We grew up with people helping people. That’s the only way we learn. 🤠

Jeff Williams and Punk Carter share one of the most powerful lessons from a lifetime in the saddle on the latest episode of The Total Podcast — taking kids in, paying it forward, and the simple ranch wisdom that changes lives long after the ride is over.

A debt paid by helping the next kid. And the reminder that what we learn with horses sticks in the real world too.

The 23-time World Champion gets honest about trying to slow down and still finding herself sneaking into Puyallup, winning, and pushing for Sioux Falls and a Final Four spot.

She didn’t quite get it done this time—but she jokes that still being in the conversation while two decades older than most of the field made it a pretty good year.

The fight of it is what’s addicting. Full episode out now.

Finding the right horse used to be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Jackie Crawford looks back on the early days of building her string—when prospects were cheaper, you could take more chances, and the pool was mostly ranch horses, cutting rejects, or culls off the track. Fast forward, and those $3,500 ready-to-start horses are long gone.

Now she’s breeding for the combination that actually works: size mixed with speed and cow sense. The investment is real before you ever swing a leg over them… but the payoff is horses built for the job.

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed in finding good rope horses over the years?

When they said it was a head horse… the horse had other plans. 🤠

Jeff Williams and Punk Carter swap one of the best cowboy stories you’ll hear on the latest episode of The Total Podcast — the big, stout “head horse” that bucked everybody off (including a bronc peeler), then showed up at the rodeo as the best pickup horse anyone had ever seen. And the punchline? Pure gold.

Two of the most common issues Lari Dee Guy sees at clinics: tip too far down + hurrying out of the box.

You need to be a 1.5, but getting ahead of your horse kills the rhythm. Leave calm, stay balanced, and catch the stride.

Straight from the legend. Save this one. 🐴🔥

They’re much more than pets. They’re partners you trust with your life.

Ken McNabb switched his horses to Total Feeds this year. After a couple of weeks away, his wife walked into the barn and asked what he’d changed. The flesh, the condition, the coat — all better. The twitchy, shaky, hyper energy? Gone.

Energy and strength without the mental blow-ups. That’s the difference when the feed matches the job.

You think you’ve heard every way to tune a cutting horse. Then Punk Carter and Jeff Williams start talking about how they used to do it.

John Carter had the first one was a little horse called Rocky Joe Mack. Somebody else had started him. Daddy finished the job, hauling him to cuttings in the back of a pickup with a sideboard. The whole herd was Punk, Roy, Mama, and a chow dog. Mama balked. Roy quit. When the horse needed more charge, the dog went in the pen.

Jeff’s bright idea wasn’t any cheaper. He and Mike caught a bunch of wild pigs, put them on feed, and figured they’d work them in a solid round pen. The pigs never gained an ounce. A pig will make about two turns, then he’s mad and coming at the horse. Three hundred dollars in feed. Two days of work.
They worked goats too. One drove a nose sideways. Two pencils, no doctor, back to work.

That’s the good part of these stories. Not the hardship. The way they tell it.

New episode of The Total Podcast drops tomorrow.

They called her the snaffle bit girl. She took it as a compliment.

Canadian trainer, clinician, and pole bender Bronwyn Irwin doesn’t have a drawer full of bits. She rides bridleless, in a junior cow horse, or in a snaffle — and that’s it. When the barrel crowd showed up in fancy shank bits and nicknamed her for sticking with the plain one, she didn’t even know it was supposed to be a dig.

Her take: if the horse is running through your hand, that’s not a bit problem. That’s a stop problem. Change the training, not the hardware.
