Meditation Club 2.5 — Your Questions Answered
We rise before sunrise to meditate.
It's like catching a very important flight. ✈️
A destination like no other — deep within the SELF.
And just like preparing for a journey, questions arise. Here are some of the most common ones.
🧘 What if I can't sit for that long?
You are free to make yourself as comfortable as you need to be.
Sit on a cushion, use a chair, lean against a wall for back support, or lie down if necessary. Adjust your position, stretch, or rest when your body asks for it.
An upright posture is traditionally encouraged because it supports alertness, but your ability to participate is not defined by your physical position.
There is the IDEAL, and then there is respect for the REAL.
We honor both.
⏰ What if I can't wake up that early?
Set your intention the night before. Prepare your clothing, set your alarm, and give yourself the gift of an early bedtime.
Sometimes, the practice begins long before we sit on the meditation cushion — with the commitment we make to ourselves.
🌱 What if I'm new and not good at meditating?
That's why we practice!
Meditation is not about being good at it. It is about showing up, observing the mind, and gently returning to our point of focus.
We practice together to support one another, to share in the collective energy of the group, and to help carry each other through the experience — one breath, one mantra, one minute at a time.
There is no performance here. Only practice.
🎶 What if I don't know the mantra?
No worries!
Handouts are provided, and the words will be written on a board.
Follow along as much as you can. Listen, chant aloud, or repeat the words silently in your mind as you become familiar with them.
You don't need to know every word to participate.
In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, mantra is a tool for directing awareness through sound, rhythm, repetition, and vibration.
Allow yourself to listen, feel the resonance, and gradually become immersed in the practice.
🧣 I've never done anything like this. What should I bring or wear?
Come as you are, and bring whatever helps you feel comfortable.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably made from natural fibers.
Bring a shawl or light blanket to create a cozy cocoon around yourself. This can help you feel contained and encourage your attention to turn inward.
Bring crystals if you enjoy incorporating them into your personal spiritual practice.
You may wear a head covering if that is meaningful to you. In Kundalini Yoga, covering the head is a traditional practice associated with maintaining focus and containing energy, but it is entirely optional.
Most importantly, bring an open heart and a willingness to experience something new.
✨ What is the significance of 2.5 hours?
Now, this is where the journey gets interesting!
When we meditate for an extended period, we may move through many phases.
Restlessness. Irritation. Boredom. Frustration. Resistance.
Perhaps even the urge to get up and leave!
All of these experiences can become part of the practice.
Rather than immediately reacting to every thought or sensation, we have an opportunity to observe, breathe, and return to our intention.
And sometimes, something shifts.
The mind becomes quieter. The need to control softens. We experience moments of stillness, clarity, or a deeper connection with ourselves.
In traditional Kundalini Yoga teachings, 2.5 hours of meditation is associated with working through deeply held subconscious patterns and cultivating a different relationship with the mind.
We practice discipline, concentration, patience, and the ability to remain present with ourselves.
Research also suggests that sustained meditation practice may support changes in attention, emotional regulation, and brain structure, although these effects are not guaranteed by a single session or a specific meditation duration.
Your experience will be uniquely yours.
Some days, meditation feels effortless. Other days, it feels like an ongoing conversation with a very persistent mind!
Both are part of the journey.
And that is why we practice.
Not to achieve a particular state, but to develop the capacity to be present with whatever arises.
Whatever your experience may be, return to your intention, remain open to possibilities, and leave a little room for MAGIC. ✨
