People see you showing up. They don’t always see what it took.

Tonight’s Sketchbook Sessions: “Still Standing.”

A lion’s head bust with a peony below it. Strength and growth. Some days, getting through is all you have in you. Other days, you start to notice yourself growing again.

Both deserve to be acknowledged.

That’s part of why meaningful tattoos connect with me. There’s a person and a story behind the design.

Been putting a little more of me into this place.

The pictures on the wall. The name on the door. Little things I’ve wanted to get done, finally coming together.

Been a little too comfortable putting myself last.

I’ll make time for clients, drawings, the business. Then keep telling myself I’ll get back to the gym tomorrow.

Today, I finally showed up. I’m working on taking care of the person behind all the work, too.

If you e been putting yourself last, let this be your reminder to make a little room for you today.

I’m learning that I don’t have to run at full brightness every day to still care about what I’m building.

Sometimes the sketchbook opens and the work flows. Sometimes I sit there for a while before the first line.

Both days count.

We’re dimmers. When things get heavy, we can turn the light down without calling ourselves a failure. And when we’re ready, we can turn it back up at our own pace.

Today’s Wednesday Sketchbook Session is for anybody carrying something people can’t see.

Your light is still on.
