The first trimester lasts through the 13th week of pregnancy.
What's happening??
- You may start noticing signs of pregnancy, such as nausea and tender breasts.
- Fetal development begins when the egg is fertilized, and by the end of the 13th week, all the organs and body systems are developing.

What's next?? Find a pregnancy care provider as soon as you know you’re pregnant.

The Landscape Analysis of Contraceptive Access in Iowa outlines how easily contraceptives are accessed across the state. Family Planning Council of Iowa found that:

✅Only 28 clinics reported offering evening or weekend contraceptive appointments. ✅In certain communities, the nearest clinic offering such appointments was a median 45 miles away and required 50 minutes of travel time.
✅ A pharmacy with extended hours was a median of just 1 mile away and a 2-minute drive.

Planning access to contraceptive care is important to consider in maternal healthcare. "Contraceptive access depends on more than whether a clinic exists".

You found out that you’re pregnant! There are a lot of emotions. What should you do first?🤰

First thing. Find a provider that will suit your needs. Look into who is taking patients in your area and the kind of care that you want. 😊✨

Find a Birth Doula. Connect with The Birthwork Foundation to get started. You can interview Doulas in your area and choose the best match for you and your family.🥰

Start to find resources that will help you understand what is happening to your body and the baby. Take notes. List questions that you have for your provider or Doula. 📚📚📖
