The most common theme when it comes to why we struggle so much to hydrate is that it just feels like a chore. It’s one of the most important and simple things you can do to maintain (and improve) your health, and it’s so often overlooked because it feels like a never-ending task to complete. The best way to get around this is to do whatever you can to look forward to your water each day. And sometimes that means having fun, and not overthinking it.

Why do there have to be so many rules around how we drink water? Case in point: ice water. So many of my clients guiltily confide “I just don’t like my water without ice.” I would much rather someone drink ice water than no water. There are far more dangerous vices than enjoying a cool, hydrating beverage.

On that note, water does not have to exist solely in a specified glass, it does not have to be skipped at certain times of day, it does not have to be boring. Breaking the rules allows us to have a little more fun with it. Cheers.

We are meant to live, not to optimize. Social media is an excellent tool for learning about our bodies, but can often make us feel guilty for not striving for constant perfection. We are meant to socialize, let loose (whatever that means to you), and enjoy ourselves.

Your first lymphatic drainage session is usually the most transformative and everyone reacts differently. While your body adjusts, you may experience a plethora of side effects. Save this as your guide, for a little extra reassurance. But always ask your practitioner if you have any questions.

I love when clients come in for their first-ever lymphatic drainage session. Even though there are lots of through-lines to how most respond, every person’s response is a little unique. Some may not feel tired, but they’re sweatier at their yoga class the next day. Some may not feel extra thirsty, but they want to spend the rest of the day curled up on the couch. Some of these responses can be a little uncomfortable, but it doesn’t mean they’re bad. Often times it means something is shifting and changing- which is often what we’re seeking when we get this work in the first place.

It’s important to note that the more consistent you receive lymphatic drainage, the less intense these will be. This does not mean that it’s no longer working. It means your body’s lymphatic load (or waste) has lessened. This is what we want.

Save this for the next time (or first time) you go in for lymphatic drainage. Most of these “normal” responses should subside within a couple of days. If they don’t, or if you’re experiencing anything on the “not normal” list, communicate with your practitioner and seek medical care.

I’m aware that this might look silly and mundane to some where these are just normal parts of everyday life.

But today I sit inside, making the decisions for the rest of my day. Do I work? Do I see friends? Do I rest? Do I go for a walk? My wish is that those converge more easily than they do now.

What I wouldn’t give for my closest people to be within walking distance, to meet up consistently in the same familiar places all gathered together. To have the attention span to read, for fun, as much as I want to. To move my body purely for fun, not for a goal. To do things without the motivation of getting ahead, or crossing something off my list. To cook without minding my macros. I crave a world that naturally carves out room for movement, rest, good food, community, curiosity, and joy. What does wellness look like to you?

What’s NORMAL vs NOT NORMAL after a lymphatic drainage session 💙

NORMAL 💙
• Feeling tired, sluggish, or needing extra rest (can last into the next day)
• Feeling a little “off,” emotional, or low mood
• Peeing more often + darker urine
• Mild headache
• Increased thirst
• Slight puffiness before things settle (temporary)
• Sweating more than usual
• Cellulite may look more noticeable temporarily (this will go down—more on that soon)
• Subtle changes… or feeling nothing at all

NOT EVERYONE FEELS SOMETHING 💙
Some people feel immediate lightness, others feel nothing noticeable. and that’s completely normal. Your body is still processing.

NOT NORMAL 💙
• Sharp or worsening pain
• Significant swelling that doesn’t go down
• Rash, hives, or signs of allergic reaction
• Dizziness that doesn’t pass or feels intense

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR BODY 💙
• Hydrate (more than usual)
• Rest + don’t overbook yourself after
• Gentle movement (walking > intense workouts)
• Nourishing, simple foods
