United Medical Systems (UMS) provides affordable advanced mobile medical services to hospitals, surgery centers and physicians’ offices across the country.

Founded in Germany in 1988, UMS has become the premier provider of shared medical services. In the late 1990’s, UMS developed the idea to mobilize over-sized medical equipment that was traditionally permanently installed within a hospital setting. Now, UMS easily moves equipment into and out of procedure suites on a daily basis. Our first transportable equipment was our lithotripsy and stereotactic breast biopsy systems. UMS has since added Urological Laser, additional Breast Health services and MRI imaging to our business model and has performed more than 650,000 procedures in over 850 medical facilities throughout the US, Canada and South America. This well-organized transportable concept has numerous advantages for medical facilities, physicians and patients:

New in JAMA Oncology: MRI before prostate biopsy has gone from 14% of first biopsies in 2017 to 64% in 2026, based on over 500,000 biopsies across US hospitals. MRI-first is rapidly becoming the standard diagnostic pathway for prostate cancer.

Here's what that shift means operationally: finding a lesion on MRI is only half the pathway. Acting on it takes MRI-ultrasound fusion biopsy capability, and for many community facilities, the platform cost has kept that out of reach: which is part of why a third of men still aren't getting guideline-aligned care.
